Last Monday was cold and crisp,
yet one of the most beautiful we
have had this winter. Tuesday was
cloudy and cold.
Lost. —A 16 lb. sledge hammer
between Trenton and the Scott place,

David Craft, of the Tuckahoe
section, was in Trenton Tuesday, and
subscribed to the News. He is one
of the most prosperous citizens of

Lewis King and E. L. Hardy will
plant a crop of tobacco this year on
Mr. King's plantation a short
distance from Trenton. They pre
pared their plant beds last Tuesday.
We have been informed that
eighty new tobacco bams will be
buUt in Jones. This shows that
many of our farmers intend cultivat
ing tobacco this year. Cotton does
not pay.
At the residence of the bride’s
mother on last Thursday IW Brock
and Miss Ora Koonce were happily
married. They left for their home
in Atlanta, Ga. The News extends
congratulations.
Miss Maud Koonce. of Wilson,
spent a few days in Trenton last
week, visiting Miss Theo Kinsey.
She, accompanied by Miss Sue May
Kinsey, went Saturday to visit her
uncle, C. T. Koonce, in Chinquepin.

good fence on Market Street be

This fence has the appearance of be
ing substantial and durable, and we
doubt not, would be largely used if
the fence is not too costly

Miss Joe Francks, accompanied
by her brother Richard, went to
Kinston last Saturday to visit their
grandmother, Mrs. Peebles, who is
quite sick. Richard returned Mon
day. Miss Joe will remain a week
or two.
Mercury going 50 degrees below
zero, which was reported in the
Aduondacks recently, one might
say is pretty cold. But in the
Southern part of our little town on
last Tuesday night, one of our
young ladies happened to the mis
fortune of having her teeth freeze.
There was certainly a chid time in
our town that night.
C. E. Foy, Esq., of Newbeme,
was in Trenton last Monday on bu
siness. This gentleman gave the
News a pleasant call, and renewed
his subscription for another year.—

Dr. S. E. Koonce, of Pollocks
ville, son of our County Court Clerk
S. E, Koonce, has received the ap
pointment of First Assistant physi
cian at the Central Hospital, Raleigh
in place of Dr. Mott, who recently
died. This is a deserved forfipli
iment. Dr. Koonce was fast win*
J ing his way to the top round of the
ladder in his profession and was en
joying a large practice in the locality
where he lived. The best wishes of
1 all the people of Jones County go
with the Doctor in his new field of
labor, and none doubt but that he
will fill the position with honor 10
himself and great credit to the State.
No mistake has been made in his
appointment. He left for Raleigh
last Monday morning.
