FRANCE, ANYONE?
"C’est la vie!" which means "It's the
life.'' in French, perfectly describes my
six-weeks' stay in Europe in the summer
of 1966. During the trip, organized by the
Foreign Language League, I studied French
and took in the sights of three countries.
Cur first compus was at the lycee,
the French public boarding school in
Etampies, forty miles southwest of Paris.
Euring our two-weeks' stay, we took
Several excursions to Paris which included
trips to the Eiffel Tower, The Bastille, and
others. We also toured the Palace of
V'ersailles.
French bread was served with every
^eal, and we had the typical breakfast of
'Coffee and French bread with preserves.
^o milk! Basically, foods were about the
®ame, but they were highly seasoned. We
^id eat horsemeat, snails, and yogurt.
Cur second compus was located at fee
lycee in Antibes on the Riviera, It was not
Unusual to see men and women of all sizes
^iid shapes wearing bikinis or nothing at
^11 on the beach. It was also sometimes
difficult to distinguish males from females
to their wild hairdos. During our An
tibes stay we took a short trip to Rome and
j many interesting sights.
Cur vacation was concluded with four
^ys in Geneva, Switzerland.
Don't think that the whole trip was fun
and games, for we had three hours of
classes in the mornings in which we studied
the French language and French culture,
taught by natives.
Cur si X weeks of excitement, education,
and fun ended by returning to Kennedy
International Airport with valuable mem-ones,
travel experience, and the conviction that
there's no place like home.
