Though the girls will be mostly on
their own, many interesting activities have

Girls’ State, sponsored by the American
J^ogion Auxiliary, will be held June Z5-July 1
^t the University of North Ca.rolina at Greens-
^oi-Q. During this week three hundred girls
^^onri all over the state will study government
^loct a. governor, cabinet, and members of
^^0 .legislature for their state. Cne day will
spent at the capitol in Raleigh.
This year Janet Sellers has been chosen
represent Smithfield High School at Girls’
^^ute. Janet is the daughter of Mr, and Mirs.
Sellers. She is a member of the First
^^rictian Church v/here she is president of
District CYF.
JUNIC.R-SENIGR PLAY
The auditorium was transform.ed into
Grand Fenwick April 21, when the corns-
bined talents of the Junior and Senior
classes presented The Miouse That Roared.
The m,ain characters were: Tully
Bascomi, Steve Stephenson; Glorianna,
Gail Evans; Count Mountjoy, Joe Morgan;
and Beryl vVells as David Benter.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the play
(especially the actors), and the weeks of
work seemed well worth the effort.
All the people who participated are
to be congratulated. The stagehands, the
.art class, and the makeup committee
helped ma.ke the play a success.
A special note of thanks goes to Mrs.
Reid and Mms. Dacus, who gave their
time to miake the presentation of the play
possible.

TEEN-AGE REPUBLICANS
The Johnston County Teen-Age
Republican Club held its second meeting
April 13, 1967, in the Smithfield iViunicipal
Building. Permanent officers were elected
at that m.eeting. They are Steve Little,
President; Janet Shallcross, Vice Presi
dent; Sally Stockdale, Secretary; Diana
Haas, Treasurer; and Sammy Byrd,
Publicity Chairmtan,
The speaker at the club's second
meeting was Connie V/hisnant, President
of the Wilson County TAR Club and Second
District Director of the North Carolina
Federation of TARs„
Twenty-eight people attended.
The Johnston County Teen-Age
Republicans held their third meeting
May 10, 1967, in the Conference Room of
the Public Library of Johnston County and
Smithfield.
State Senator Jesse H. Austin, Jr. ,
of Clayton, was the guest speaker.
Twenty-seven TARs were present to hear
