RED DEVIL SPORTS
GOLF
This year Smithfield High School
wfas looking for some improve
ment, in the golf team. Although
at the end of the season their
record was (1-3), they played
much better than this really in
dicate. The golf team put up a
valiant battle, losing one match
in a sudden death hole. They lost
another by a very small margin.
There is the general feeling that
next year’s team will be even
mcire improved. They will have
every member of this year’s team
ccming back with a summer of
practice.
TRACK TEAM
The Smithfield Track Team did
not have an altogether highly
sucessful year. The team did not
win a single meet, but took sev
eral seconds in the tri-meets.
Coach Brown started with a hand^
ful of inexperienced' boys and built
them up during the season.
At the conference meet, the
team did much better than was
expected of them. Johnny Whitley,
a freshman miler, tocJc second in
the mile run. The % mile relay
team took a second and the mile
relay team tc-ok a fifth.
The team w!as made up of low
er classmen, so we can expect a
greatly improved team next year.

Speaking of senior women, if
any of yui girls need a compan

Danny Narron, we’ve heard
that you asked a certain junior
girl (Debbie Cretini) to reserve
a page in her annual for you. Is
this true cj: did Betty Crocker
ask her to?
Eddy Patterson is still hitting
that happy trail to Pine Level to
