Community Connections, April, 1991 Page 7 The annual election and general membership meeting of CLOSER, Community Liaison Organization for Support, Education, and Reform, Inc., will be held Tuesday, May 21, at 7:45 PM in the parish hall at All Souls Episcopal Church, Biltmore. CLOSER is a support and educational group for gay men and lesbians and other gay-affirming people. Four slots on the Board of Directors need to be filled, as half of the directors are going off the Board this year. (CLOSER’s first Board of Directors was elected last May, with four persons elected to two-year terms, and four elected to one-year terms.) According to the by-laws, "candidates for membership in the Board of Directors shall be considered only on the basis of their outstanding character and integrity and a demonstrated commitment to the goals of the corporation." As always, a Nominating Committee has been appointed to seek out candidates. Anyone wishing to nominate a member of CLOSER who fulfills the above qualifications must 1) request the consent of that person to place his/her name in nomination, and 2) speak to a member of the Nominating Committee. This year’s Nominating Committee is comprised of David Beckett, Carlos Gomez, Vicky Miller, and Kelly Finn. In addition to the slate of nominees for the Board positions, the Nominating Committee will provide a slate of nominees for the Executive Committee, i.e., President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The Nominating Committee will also make absentee ballots available to every eligible member who requests one. The resignation of two Board members this winter necessitated the appointment of two new members to the Board, and the replacement of two officers. Jim Fowler and Nancy (Curry) Snead were appointed to the.Board. According to the by-laws, they will serve the rest of the two-year terms vacated by those who resigned. The Board elected Bill Haines Secretary and Bill Allen Vice-President. The Board of Directors now consists of Charlotte Goedsche, President; Bill Allen, Vice-President; Bill Haines, Secretary; Carlos Gomez, Treasurer; and Directors Cindy Brewer, Jim Fowler, Charles Lee, Betsy Mayers, and Nancy Snead. Charlotte, Jim, Betsy and Nancy will continue to serve on the Board next year. ▼ Resident manager needed for Our House. Applications and job description available in WNCAP office.
