The names of the two teams are "Biltmore Chiropractic" and "Orange Street." Correction by the WNC Pride Committee: In the May issue, our ad regrettably did not include the Asheville Gay Men’s Community Chorus. Their concert on Sunday, June 16, at 7:30 PM is a very important part of the WNC Lesbian/Gay Pride Festival. HIV+ Support Groups Clarified by Dan Marshall There has been some confusion about the two support groups led by Joan and me--one group for persons who are HIV + and their families, friends, care givers, and significant others, and the other group only for those who are HIV + . The first group, for HIV+ persons as well as families, friends, care givers, and significant others, meets the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM. This group was begun in the spring of 1987 by the Western North Carolina AIDS Project (WNCAP). At the invitation of the Project, I facilitated the group, to be joined within the first few months by Joan as co-facilitator. Attendance usually ranges between 12 and 18, about half ofwhom are HIV+ and the other half of whom are families, friends, care givers, and significant others. This group is co-sponsored by WNCAP and All Souls Church. The second group, which is for HIV+ persons only, meets every Friday at 6 PM. This group was begun two or three years ago at the request of several HIV + persons who wanted a group only for HIV + individuals. Joan and I have been co-facilitators of this group since it began. This group is sponsored by the participants in it. It is not sponsored by WNCAP. Rumors have spread that one must be a client of WNCAP in order to attend these support groups. These rumors are false. Any person who is HIV + , or has a family, friendship, care giving, or significant other relationship to a person who is HIV + , is welcome at the support group which meets the first and third Thursday. Anyone who is HIV positive is welcome at the support group which meets every Friday. There is no charge for attending either of these groups. One does not have to be a client of WNCAP or a member of All Souls Church to attend. We are grateful to WNCAP and to All Souls Church for their co-sponsorship of the first and third Thursday support group. We are grateful to the participants in the Friday support group for their sponsorship of that group. For further information about these groups, please call Joan or Dan (277-7815 or 669-2635). Both of these phones have answering machines. If we are not present to receive calls, we will return calls in a manner that respects confidentiality. MTN-GLO Announces Plans by Eric Chalk On May 13, the Mountain Gay/Lesbian Organization (MTN-GLO) held its last meeting of the year before its summer hiatus. At that meeting, new officers were elected and a congratulations goes to Dottie and Eric for obtaining the titles of co-chairpersons of the organization. MTN-GLO has also announced its summer agenda. On June 9 a hike is planned on Wayah Bald; July 13, rafting at the Nantahala Outdoor Center; and August, an end-of-the-summer picnic. MTN-GLO will hold its "first" meeting Sept. 9, and will continue thereafter with the regularly scheduled meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of every month. All those west of Asheville are encouraged to become involved with this organization. ▼ CHARLOTTE STREET CAFE 132 Charlotte St., Ashevillie, NC 28801 704-251-1427 Open Monday through Saturday • Drive thru service • Catering available Warm, friendly staff HONEY HILL FARMS.
