NCCGLE Awarded Grant The Anti-Violence and Discrimination Project of The North Carolina Coalition for Gay and Lesbian Equality (NCCGLE) has received a $5000 grant from the OUTFund, a newly-established fund of The Funding Exchange, a consortium of progressive funders based in New York City. The grant application points out that North Carolina has been first among all states in the numbers of anti-gay acts of violence and discrimination for the past five years. Mechanisms are in place in many parts of the state for documentation of homophobic acts. What is needed is services for victims of discrimination and violence, work with law enforcement agencies, social services and the criminal justice system. The grant proposal requested funds which would enable these next steps to be initiated. The Mr. North Carolina USA competition was held at Club Caberet in Hickory on Saturday, July 20. Eleven men competed for the title. Mr. NC USA 1991-92 is Darrell Lanza, from Atlanta. First Runner-up, from Mrytle Beach, is Slade; and Second Runner-up, from Winston-Salem, is Mat.
