THE = REPORTER VOL. II, NO. 1 Winston-Salem, North Carolina NOVEMBER 26, 1968 FIFTEEN Fifteen Forsyth Tech girls were nomi nated to compete for the main seat on the Christmas float. The Christmas Queen Contest is a student government project held to raise money to build a float to be presented in the Winston-Sa lem Christmas parade. Votes were made with dimes. The girl who raised the most money was selected queen. The girls who raised the next two largest amounts will also ride on the float. Curriculum Representatives were: Executive Secretarial — Jessie McMillan, Willie Kam Mumford, and Pat Brewer; Practical Nursing — Ginger Miller, Cindy McGlamery, Judie Cook, and Marie Reynolds. Belinda Craver represented Auto Mechanics; Brenda Flynn — T.V. and Electronics, and Gwen James — Printing Management. Doris Adams rep resented Graphic Arts; Shelby Hutchens, Horticulture; and Linda Settlemyre, Building Trades and Drafting. Represent ing Business Administration were Angela Venable and Mary Pegram. GIRLS COMPETE FOR QUEEN Girls who participated in the Christmas Queen Contest were: Front Row: Cindy McGlammery, Jessie McMillan, Belinda Craver, Mary Pegram, Willie Kay Mum ford, Linda Settlemyre, Doris Adams; Back Row: Ginger Miller, Angela Venable, Gwen James, Shelby Hutchens, and Pat Brewer. Forsyth Tech students volunteer spare time to construct the Christmas Float to be presented in the Winston-Salem parade Saturday, November 30. Students Produce Second Float Approximately four weeks ago the Stu dent Council of Forsyth Technical In stitute decided to build a float for this year’s Winston-Salem Christmas parade. Mike Crews was placed in charge of the Christmas project. The float is being built by students of FTI in their spare time. The float will measure 30 feet by 10 feet with a huge Moravian star in the middle. The star will revolve on a pivot run by a small motor. The Christmas Queen of FTI will be seated in the center of the Moravian star. First and second runners-up will be seated on the front of the float. The float will have a red background of aluminum covered with hundreds of white Poinsettias. On two sides of the float, letters in white with green border will proclaim “Christmas Greetings.” The letters FTI will be on the back of the float in green. The float will be pulled instead of self-propelled. Graduation Nears For Practical Nurses Twenty-eight practical nurse students will graduate from Forsyth Technical Institute on December 11. They are: Gwendolyn Simpson Bell, Clayvon Peggy Black, Lela Hunter Blanton, Mary Har rison Bradley, Evelyn Mock Childs, Mo- cille Roberts Chisholm, Barbara Jean Conrad, Susan Kay Adams Craver, Ella Mitchell Cross, Jeanette Waugh Dellin ger, Edythe Watkins Fowler, Evelyn La- fretta Hedrick, Gloria Wiley Henry, Tamae Eguchi Hicks, Maggie Elizabeth Jackson, Mamie Speas Johnson, Audrey Campbell Lamberth, Eloise Wilder Le- Cost, Olga Harris Lewellyn, Earlene Sharpe Little, Daisy Gambrell McClen don, Elleton Williamson McCullough, Constance Reeves Moore, Belvia Levonia Moses, Donna Mayes Parker, Hazel Flet cher Patterson, Beulah Scippio Peoples, and Shirley McIver Smith. Graduation exercises will take place at Davis Memorial Chapel at N. C. Baptist Hospital. Congratulations to these ladies who have worked so hard and good luck on state boards!
