Album Review Dee Spainhour GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY POWER SUPPLY SLADE-CBS RECORDS Slade, a newly discovered group, has produced their first album entitled Get Your Hands Off My Power Supply. The group, formerly called “Mindbenders,” used to be the back-up band for Wayne Fontana. They are now being managed by Chas Chandler who played bass for the original “Animals.” The song “Run Runaway” boosted the group into the spotlight with its elec trifying drums and Scottish- like guitars mixed with a new sound that derives from a fiddle. When this song was released, the album hit the charts and was at number 48 by July. While “Run Runaway” made the Top 40 charts, the song “My Oh My” shows the sentimental side of the group. This song is a good song to listen to because it expresses some of our basic needs, such as being loved and togetherness. This song is also different from “Run Runaway” in that the lyrics contradict each other. “Run Runaway” advises running away from problems while “My Oh My” emphasizes togetherness and helping out each other. Other songs on the album have a lot of hard-rocking guitars mixed with sen seless lyrics. For example, the song “In The Doghouse” states “We got by without any money, you better shut your big mouth. Come on get done in a hurry, I need the doghouse.” And how about this wild intro to the song “Slam The Hammer Down,” “Hey you up there! Can you hear me? You got to listen to me when I’m talking to ya. If you’re going to go for it, you got to go for it good. That means you ain’t going to get away from what you got coming.” What does that have to do with “Slam The Hammer Down”? The only way one could enjoy those songs is if he were spaced out. If you like the song “Run Runaway,” I would advise you to buy just the 45, not the album. On a scale from 1 to 10,1 rate this album a 4, just for the song “Run Runaway” and for the group’s tremendous effort on the rest of the album. 1983-84 YEARBOOKS ARE STILL AVAILABLE The Reflector - Volume VIII “More Class Than Ever” SGA Office Snyder Hall, Room 6146 MAMMA MIA ESTABLISHED IN 1979 New York Style PIZZA and SUBS $1.00 Off Any Medium Or Large Pizza With This Coupon Located Downtown on 4th Street Between Cherry and Marshall ACROSS FROM STEVENS CENTER WE DELIVER!
