DURHAM — Bishop D. Ward Nichols, presiding bishop of the 9to Episcopal District of the A. M. E. Church, will preach North Caro lina College's annual baccalaureate sermon here Sunday afternoon at 3:30 in Duke Auditorium. The youngest bishop in his churco at the time of his election in 1940, Bishop Nichols is chancellor of Dan iel Payne College, Birmingham, Ala., a trustee of Wilberforce University and chairmman of the newly elect ed pension board in the A. M. £. Church. He is a native of Charleston, S. C.. and received his education al Avery Institute, Howard University, Co lumbia University and Union Theo logical Seminary. Bishop Nichols comes to Durham Surday following a series of lec tures he is giving at Western Uni versity. Kansas City. Kansas, this week. Before his promotion to the bishopric, the prelate pastored New York City's Emanual Church for fifteen years. Collins and wife, of DcRiddcr, La., visited relatives and friends here Sunday. Sgt. Ernest of Atkinson, who was wounded April 5. 1945. is back in the States. He is the son of Mrs. Bertha Smith, the nephew of Mrs. Flossie Sanders Friends of Mr. Robert Williams regret to know that he is on the -sick list. We hope for him a very speedy recovery. Wo are very sorry to learn that Mr. George Curry was the victim ot a serious accident here last Thursday at a vulcanizing shop, The pressure tank exploded, burning him BO severely that he died in St. Agnes Hopsital Friday A. M. Mr. Isaac Woodard was also treated for burns about the face, head and hands. He didn't remain in the hos pital. Mrs. Rosa Nicholas and daughter. The honor to the brilbant soprano was bestowed by the trustees In recognition of her distinctive achievements in the musical world. Bishop Robert N. Brooks of New Orleans, La., returned to deliver the baccalaureate address Sunday. It was his first visit to the college, he himself attended, since his conse cration a year ago during the Cen tral Jurisdictional Conference. Ministers assisting in the com mencement exercises were: Rev G. W. Carter, New GrlCans, La., and Bcv. J. J. Blanton, Marion, both fathers of graduates. May 27, by the graduating class of the college in the traditional, senior chapel service in Ogden Hall, gift was presented to President Ralph P. Bridgmen by Frederick Alston of St. Louis, Mo., president of the class of 1945. News- Miss Wells led the assemblage in the singing of traditional spirituals and Miss Esvend Reaves of Balti more, Md.. read an original poem. The class address was delivered by Herbert Alford of Atlantic City, N. J.. following the tinging of Gouni)d's “Ave Maria" by Mis-s Elizabeth Burgess of Norfolk. Miss F.
