There was one execution by hanging in Washington. At the close of 1956 there were 145 prisoners reported as awaiting j execution in 34 jurisdictions, one j of whom a female. In Rhode ts kind the death penalty is con fined to a prisoner who com mits murder while serving » life sentence.
