Miller Barbour, western field di- j rector of the National Urban Lea-' gw*, a social service, interracial I organization, died March 20 in ' Good Samaritan hospital here, at the age of 40. H* was born in Philadelphia, Pa. Hr received the Bachelor of { Arts Degree in 1932 from Eliza-' bethtown College in Elizabeth- j town. Pa., and the Master of So-! ciai Work Degree in 1945 from i the Pennsylvania School of So cial Work. He was employed by the Phila delphia Department of Public As sistance (1938-41), and served as an administrator with the Whar ton Settlement in the city <1944- 47). He joined the Urban League in 1947, helping to organize its Denver (Colo.) branch and serving as its first executive secretary,. Five years ago lie became the western field di- I lector of the national organi zation with regional head quarters in Hollywood, Calif. In Denver, Mr. Barbour served I as part-time instructor at the j University of Denver. He was a member of a number j of professional organizations, in- j eluding the National Association of Social Workers and the Nation al Conference on Social Welfare.
