In the business meeting a child was selected by the group to at tend camp, and plans were made for the Dutch Tarty which will take place late in May. After the business ses sion the members celebrated the birthday of Airs. Mary Marabie, at which time they sang “Happy Birthday” and presented her with many beau tiful gifts. Following' the game of Po-Kena a consolation prise was presented to Mrs. Ruth Law ronce and high score prize was won by Mrs. Geneva I s Brown. Carson, his choir and congregation of Rush Memorial church rendered services at the Providence Holiness Church last Wednesday night. The program was a great success. The Stewardess Retard of Rush Memorial Church entertained at a Calendar Party on last Sunday afternoon. This program was a fin ancial success. VISITING Mrs. Charles G. Irving has gone to Atlanta. Go., to visit her dau ghter. Miss Florence B. Irving, who is Research Assistant at the Sou thern Regional Council. Mr. Charles Davis. no*.v serving in the Navy and stationed in Mary land. was home during the week end to visit bis parents on Jama cia Drive, Visiting her parents and friends for a few days was Miss Errnas tine Lee, Miss Lee is a graduate of the Saint Agnes School of Nurs ing and is now employed at the University Hospital in Maryland. This is spread between split cake layers ai d ! on the top and sides, as pictured here. Fresh green mint leaves or fresh strawberries as garnish give it that “extra special” party look. STRAWBERRY CREAM ICEBOX CAKE S cups cold milk I eup whipping cream 2 packages strawberry 2 8-inch sponge cake instant pudding mix layers Pour milk into mixing bowl. Add pudding mix and beat I slowly with egg beater just until well mixed, about 1 minute Do not overbeat; mixture will be thin. Let stand until slightly thickened—takes about 2 minutes. Whip the cream and fold it into the pudding. Cut the cake layers through center hori zontally, making 4 layers. Spread the mixture between layers and on tops and sides of r:ake. THE CHARMETTES MEET The Social Charmettes mot re cently at the home of Mrs. Gladys McKinley on East Lenoir Street. Mrs. Anie B. Dunn, president, pre sided over the brief business ses sion at which time all members participated by presenting various birthdays in March were present ed gifts by the riub members. Those receiving gifts were Mrs. Emily Mangumn and Mrs. Callie Jones. Everyone was happy to learn that Mr. Merlin Jones, husband of Mrs. Callie Jones, was up and about. After the business session, a deli cious repast was served. Members present were: Mrs. Lillian Barker, Mrs. Mary D. Moore. Miss Car lotta Jones, Mrs. Sadie Ford, Mrs. Kattie Hillard, Mrs. Gladys Mc- Kinley, Mrs Annie B Dunn, Mrs. Emily Mangum and Mrs. Callie Jones. Music was furnished by the .; junior choir, directed by Mrs. | Mary G, Pulley, Dr. Grady D. j Davis, the pastor, brought a won | derful message from the subject, “Jesus As Our Example.” The day was closed out with, the Annual State Tea. LILLIE OF THE VALLES’ At 10:00 A. M. Sunday School began with the morning worship following at 11. A very inspiring message from the subject, “Do Thyself no Harm, We ail are Here,” was delivered by the pas tor, Rev. A. G. Graham. There were five new members added to the church. MARTIN STREET BAPTIST Superintendent H. C. High had charge of the Sunday School which began at 9.45 There was a very nice group present. The sen ! ior choir furnished music for the ] morning service, with Miss Ada | Jarnagin at the organ. The pas ’ tor, Rev P, H. Johnson, delivered a soul-stirring message from the book of Corinthians. A full house enjoyed tins service. Mrs. Janie Little was added to the sick list. The pastor, members and friends arc praying for a speedy recovery for all the sick and shut-ins. FIRST CONG REG ATIONAL Sunday School opened at 9:45 with Superintendent Sherman Lewis presiding. Mrs Ruth Ray Joyner was at the organ while the senior choir sang. A beautiful ser mon was preached by the pastor, Rev, Howard Cunningham. All who participated enjoyed Holy Communion, Many visitors were made welcome TUPPER MEMORIAL 7:30 P. M. The City Wide Ush ers Union of Raleigh was guest. The guest speaker was Mr. C. h. Langston who brought a dynamic address from the subject “The Three R’s.” Tha pastor, Rev. Boone, and members were very glad to have this group. YOUNG’S CHAI'EL CMC Mrs. Delia Ford was in charge of Sunday School which was opened at 9:45. At 11 A. M. the senior choir furnished music for the morning service. An awaken ing sermon by Rev. J. N. Leve ette. the pastor, was preached from t,lie subject “The .'Signifi cance of the Lord's Supper.” This sermon was enjoyed by all. UNION BAPTIST Sunday School began at 10:00 A. M. and Morning worship was at, 12. The pastor. Rev, George Mitchell, brought a very strong message. FIRST BAPTIST Sunday School was opened at I 9:30 with the superintendent, Mr. W. H.
