TYSON PHONE 5-7405 Attends National Convention HIGH POINT —Miss Mytrolene j ,L Gray, principal of Fairview 1 Elementary School, has returned 1 .to the city after having attended I two NEA conventions held in St. j hauls, Misouri, and Cincinnati, i Dhio, respectively. The 12th annual meting of the j Association for Supervisors and I Curriculum Development <ASCD'j was held in St, Louis with head- : quarters in the Shea non. Jeffer-1 son &i;d Stater Hotels. The theme for the convention 1 was “Education and the future; Appraise land Planning." The detailed programs consist ed of study-tiiscusion groups, clin ics, regional breakfast meetings, tours, open committees' meetings, and commissions and small as semblies and ho-1 schools were open for field visit',. The general ses -*>ns hi hi- lit-! ins the convention were tup-flight educational leaders and lay people served as guest speakers, symposi um leaders and panel moderatiors. The annual meeting of the de partment of Elementary School Principals iDLSP) was held in Cincinnati with headquarter:- in the Netherland-Hilton and Shera ton-Gibson Hotels. The theme for the convention v.as "Improving Educational Opportunities for Children." Approximately 4.000 Elemen-! tary School Principals concerned themselves with the aspects of problems taken up in the study discussion groups, clinics, state breakfast meetings and assemblies. While the general sessions were top spots of the Convention, "The First Hundred Year" NEA centen nial celebration pageant was the : real highlight. MORE The principals will go to Phil adelphia for the 1858 convention . while the ASCD'en. will journey to Seattle. William Penn concludes Science Fair The William Penn Hi School students brought their Science Pali to a .successful close with a panel discussion by visiting judges that was enjoyed immensely by the student body. Appearing on the panel were: Dr. Hollis Rogers, Dr. D. A. Ed wards, Dr. S E. Duncan, Dr. ; Marjorie Brown Dr. Thomas Ma- j lone with Mr. V E Morris as moderator. The students had an opportunity to question the con cultants at the end of their talks. Some of the students were able to have personal conferences with the visiting scientists. N, “NICK” MOORE. Sr. D. N. “Nick" Moore, Sr., of 803 Fairview Street, died Thursday evening at the Hig - ' Point Memo rial Hospital. Mr. Moore had been in declining health for several years bceouv ! ing seriously so on Wednesday. Fie was a retired barber and a j j pioneer citizen. He was a charter, member of Second Presbyterian : Church. Mr Moore came to High . Point in 1900 from New Hanovei County. He was always active in i civic work. He v.as married on Oct. 25, 1905 1 to the former Miss Elizabeth A Holt of Morganton. The survivors include the wi ! dlow, two daughters.
