The Facts
Dp homemakers know how !
much of Uieir time is spent in
house cleaning? According to
Mamie Whisnant, Agricultural Ex
tension Service home manage
ment specialist, the average wo
man spends about a third of her
time cleanin • floors, dishes, cloth- j
m and bath tubs.
"Time spent in cleaning can be ,

and also help family members ‘ r >

Suitable tools and supplies
art a good investment to make
towards making houscclean
| ing easier, provided they are
well cared for. “They will also
aid yon in doing an efficient
job of housecleanJng,” Miss
Whisnant points out. “Soap,
water, and cieau cloths are
essential materials that are
available in every home. In
some localities, water should
be softened before using.”
Miss Whisnant suggests the fol
lowing list of tools needed in ev
ery home for houseoleanin ■:
brooms, brushes, mops and wring
er, pails, stepladder, dust pan
(long-handled dust pan saves
much stooping and bending
cleaning and polishing rags, and
sweeper or vacuum cleaner (de
sirable).
There are a number of supph'
a homemaker needs to keep or,
hand for cleaning. These are;
soap or soap jelly, kerosene, floor
wax, whiting and household am
monia. Other supplies which may
be useful are washing soda. Full
er’s earth, denatured alcohol, vin
egar, turpentine, linseed oil. and
trisodiuni phosphate (an ingre
dient in many dairy washing pow
ders).
Mias Whisnant points out
that there, are many new
cleaning products on the mar
ket today—products that do
each job faster and better,
“These products,” she says,
“include painted wall, wood
work, and linoleum cleaners
such as foamy, scented abra
sives, upholstery ami rug
cleaners, special window
(glass) cleaners, wall paper
cleaners, and synthetic deter

Miss Whisnant, urges that you;

cleaning supplies, what types of
cleaning they will do, and how
to use them correctly. The best,
