| National Spiritual Assent bly Os Baha ’is :
| Inaugurate Annual Race Amity Day In US ;
Race Amity Day is an annual
national observance has been in
augurated by the National Spiri
tual Assembly of the Baha’is of
the United States for the promo
tion of higher standards of inter
racial relationship and of true un
derstanding of the oneness of aii
mankind.
To be observed each year on
the second Sunday in June,
Ifacc Amity Day will this year,
on June 9, call for special ac
tivity in all 1509 localities in
the nation where Baha’is now
reside, including the ioeai
communities of Raleigh and
Greensboro. Men of good will
j everywhere are not only in
vited but urged to participate.
Although problems of race have
long been with America, they have
now become dangerous and
become dangerously acute and
complex, the Assembly asserted in
its initiatory statement. “What is
of vital concern for the well-being
of one segment of the human race
is now of vital concern for all. In
ter-racial relationships today are
!no longer a matter of domestic
j cone rn. but have become of
[ much consequence in distant
lands.”
I “We see no way for the solution
j of our own nation’s problem, or
j even for the establishment of a bid
] ing world peace until there is re
j cognition of the unity of the hu-
I man race, and spiritually motivat-
I ed actions growing out of this re
cognition,” the Assembly contin
| tied. “If we are to follow a bold,
decisive, sincere and wise course,
j wo must first cleanse hearts, our j
I own included, of prejudice and ra- j
| cial animosity which are so con- !
I trary to the will of God.”
The first race amity convert- j
tion between the colored and ,
white races held in this coun
try and probably in the world
was sponsored by Baha’is in
Washington, D. C.. in May, 19-
21. For three days this historic
meeting attracted the attention ;
; and participation of social lead
! ers, statesmen, educational lea
ders. business men. artists and
I musicians of both races,
i There has been a continual evo- |
; Iv.tion of inter-racial activity j
j throughout Baha’i communities |
I since that time and adherence to ]
THE CAROLINIAN
a policy of no racial separation
within Baha'i groups. One of the
purposes of the present Ten-Year,
world-wide Spiritual Crusade in
which Baha'is are engaged is the
promotion of inter-racial amity.

BARENTS AND CHILDREN TO
VISIT RICHARD B. HARRISON
LIBRARY
Washington Junior High pupils
realize the importance of READ
ING during the summer. Most of
them who wish to impove them
selves have chosen THE RICH
ARD B. HARRISON as their fav
orite spot for the summer. They
eu*arly realize that the child who
does not read good book?, maga
zines. etc. regularly during the
summer months gets at least one
haif year behind. “No not us, says
a j. roup of Washington pupils.” We
| will be in the group to get a half
| year ahead and our parents are
! uoing to visit Richard B. Harrison

TAKING INVENTORY
The Rev. Robert Shirley, pastor
■ f Davie Street, Presbyterian
' hurch thrilled his audience on
i Thursday morning, May 23. He
1 v. as conscious Os the fact that most
’ students were interested in nothing
j nbre than the day when school
! closes. He challenged them by I
j asking this question. “Have you !
i thought about your teachers?” j
; They must take inventories of ■
I U ioks, which is one of the hardest I
bs to attempt This is something j
j that is compulsory. If you are to !
I run a successful home, school, j
church, business etc., at intervals j
1 you must take inventory which is j
•• careful and thorough listing of j
j : U articles on hand. The. value. :
condition, etc. are checked.
During the year pupils have used j
books, art supplies, etc. An inven- i
tory must be taken of these. The j
dietitians, maids and ianitors take j
inventories. The principal outlines j
these inventories.
What are the three main rea
sons for giving inventories? They 1
; are 1. To find out what we have !
cow. 2. To find out what we have |
: used and 3. To find out what wc :
: need. These things we must know j
i in order to have a successful en j
j suing school year.
A serious question arises? What ;
;S it? Have you taken an inventory
'if your life? The final analysis is:
' What do you want to be?” Re
gardless to what your parents,
friends, teachers or anyone else
wants you to be. The one to an- -
