THORPE Quite an enthusiastic group turned out for the Church School at 9:45 am. last Sunday which meant that we were beginning a } fine service for the day. It was Communion Day and ev eryone was in fine attitude for worship. Die processional, Holy, Holy, was sung, lead by the sen ior choir, We paused and knelt at the altar for special consecra tion prayer before ascending the choir loft. Our first hymn, 410 “According to thy gracious Word" was sung, lined by our pastor, Rev. W. D. Carson. The responsive reading was for the 29th Sunday. "The worth of man”. Scripture lesson was then read by our pastor from St. John’s gospel, 12th chapter, 18th to the 30th verses. The soul stirring prayer was offered by Bro. S, H. Clay. Our 2nd hymn, 413, “In Memory of the Saviour's Love” was sung while the congregation sat In de vout meditation. After the ser monette to the junior church and the singing of the spiritual "We’ll Understand it Better by and by”, the minister chose his text from the same scripture read St. John 12:21. "The same came therefore to Philip which was Befhsaida of Galilee and desired him saying, “Sir we would see Jesus.’* The minister began by saymg that the text is the language of the Gentile prostitutes who came up from Jerusalem. These were a worried and disturbed people who were anxious to see Jesus and they came saying “Sir we would see Jesus” because they knew that he was the only one who could ease their troubled minds. The message w'as forceful, tactful and full of the Holy spirit. At the evening hour the min ister preached from Acts 1:8, But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you, etc. Theme: “The Church”, The following points veer discussed: The Church is God and in order to be with God, 1. You must be converted; 2. You must be a lover of God and His Church and peo ple. Again we were privileged to enjoy another great message. Our thought for the week: Our Father, as the summer season op ens, help us each and everyone to come closer to Thee through j fellowship and worship. Mrs. Annie H.
