Miller Retires At Salisbury SALISBURY According to ar. announcement by the Board of Trustees or Livingstone College Prof Isaac H Miller retired from ihe institution on Sept 1 after serving in the department of edu c.'uon for 2?> years A native of Mississippi Prof Miller received his education at Rust College and the iTniverafty of Chicago Irior to his tenure at I.'vingstone College, he served a* Ukolona Industrial School in Mis sissippi Clark College m Atlanta. •Sa.; Cookman Institute in Florida; Bennett College in O' -enshrno: .and Rust College in Mi.«issipp- He has. held the positions of pres'- '..ent dean, professor and principal in these vaitous institution- The education department of Livingstone College h-i® flour ished under Prof Miller s dir ection, and today there, is bird !y a county in North Carolina a a reel! as other areas outside tv>o state where the influence of his teachings cannot be felt As a civic worker. Red i Cross and the United War Fund Because of his high esteem in the community, in February of this year the new Negro Recreation ; Center on West Bank' Street was 1 named "Miller Recreation Center” in his honor. He is very active tn religious ac tivities and serves on »ne trustee h: rd as financial secretary ot Moores Chapel A. M. £. Zion ! Church. Prof Miller is married and has three children who are pr r sently engaged in educational services. His daughter. Mrs, K Elnlse Simpson, Is chairman of the music department, of Liv ingstone College His older son, Howard, 1* a teacher In the high school at Marlon, and his oilier son. Isaac. ,tr.. uho holds a Ph. D. degree from the University of Wisconsin In bio chemistry. Is a professor at Meharry Medical College In Nashville. Term. All are gra duate;, of Livingstone College. Prof Miller and wife reside at 1008 West Monroe Street in the city. It was pointed out that the sup plementary scholarships aie part of the service's program to find and help talented Negro students who otherwise might not attend , collage.
