ciology at Haverford College,
Ilavcrford, Pa„ since 1947, has |
had a distinguished career in ,
education, in social welfare
work, and In research. Follow
ing his graduation from More
house College, he earned the
M.A. degree from the Univer
sity of Pittsburgh and the
I’h.D, from Columbia Univer
sity.
He has taught in the public
schools m Texas and West Vir- 1
ginia, and. on the college level, j
has taught at, Atlanta and New
York imiversitie*. For a number
of year#, he -served a# director of
research for the National Urban I
League, and at. one time was a
•social economist with the So- i
cial Security Board.
In addition to serving various
other government agencies, Dr.
Reid has found time to write n
number of books and at one time
was editor of Phylon magazine,
Bennett College was found
ed as a co-edueational insti
tution in 1873. It became a
college for women in 1928, at
which time, the late Dr. Dav
id D. Jones, became Its presi
dent. serving until 1955, when
he was succeeded by Dr. Wll
ia- B. f’layer.
Since 1926 Bennett has cr&du- i
a ted over 1.700 young women, the j
majority of who make tear hero i
and homemakers. Many, however, j
have been attracted to the proses- j
slons and hold graduate degrees
from leading universities and pri- j
tensions] schools,
