! three of his white fellow airmen
• with saving their lives when an
j Air Force B-29 crashed over Alas
ka recently.
When the plane was report
ed missing, atr-reseue search
era gave the entire 10-man
crew up for lost, because the
crash area was completely ob
scured from search planes hi a
winter fog. However, just as
the planes were about to aban
don the search, a flare shot up.
When rescuers got lo the wreck*
age by helicopter, they found four
o fthe 10 men had survived.
Campbell, one of the men, had
! miraculously escaped uninjured,

: ions from the plane, and then went
; hack to gather up sleeping bags
| and rations to keep ihem warm and
nourished. At an Air Force hospi
