The Guild quoted Justice Black's statement in the Konigsberg case that “It is also important both to society and the bar itself that law yers be unintimidated—free to think, speak and act as member* of an Independent Bar.” The Guild had filed an amicus brief in the Konigsberg case and its position had been upheld by the Supreme Court. These cases held that a state may net deny admission to the bar merely because of an in dividual’s political beliefs or asso ciations.
