! Sunday, Sept. 14, was a very
i special day at historic Oberlin |
I Baptist Church, located on Ober
| lin Road in the heart of the Ra-!
i leigh community of that name.
I it was on that date, five years I
ago thai Dr. Grady D, Davis as- ■
j sumed the pastorate of that pvo-j
' gressivh church. Much has hap- j
j pened at Oberlin Baptist since Dr. i
1 Davis took over the spiritual j
; leadership there. Doubtless the j
I most significant of these happen-j
! ings was the fire that completely j
j destroyed the old wooden church j
' edifice in January 1955.

Both Dr. and Mrs. Davis were i
visibly shaken by this outpopuring j
of love and affection. In express- j
ing gratitude for both, Dr. Davis j
praised his wife for her help in j
making it possible for him to j
carry on. He said that it was ira- j
possible for him to express in j
words his feeling and gratitude j
but he promised to prove how
grateful he was through service
to the church and to the com
munity as well.
A reception in honor of Dr.
and Mrs, Davis was held in the
church Fellowship Hall immedi- j
ately after the anniversary ser- j
vice.
