Three major threats to traffic
■ saiety at this time of the year were
described by State Motor Vehicles
Commissioner Ed Scheldt.
"One threat is reduced visibility,'
he declared. -‘lt’s obvious that our

The cars are gaily-colored on

three classes of travel-first, second
and third. Whole families make up
the bulk of passenger:, travelling
third-class, and everything is in a
general state of disarray At the
end of each car is a huge stove,
and the women can be found cook
ing away, amid conversation and
shrieks of laughter.
Second class is less crowed and
more sedate, although the bard
i seats-in all cars make travel a bit
| wearying,

A couple of years ago. a dense
! fog at Ibadan prevented me from
; making a plane connection from
j there to Kaduna. The plane circled
j ‘.he field but did not land, so T had
; lo take the Kaduna Express. By
j plane, the trip would have tak<-n
i 3 1-2 hours; the train, with its in
: numberabie stops and heavy load,
I look exactly 24 hours.
