St. Paul’s j Test Center For Students I LAWRENCE VILLF. President Earl H. McClenney announced to day that Saint Paul's College will he one of the thirty colleges par ticipating in the testing of 5,000 to 6,000 scholarship arid admission candidates from more than 700 high schools distributed through out the United States and tee Vir gin Islands. Saint Paul’s College will coope rate in administering the Coopera tive Intercollegiate Examination between February 23, and March 7. 1959. which will be given in some 265 test centers across the nation during this period. The Co operative lintercollegiate Examina tion Program is an educational service of the United Negro Col lege Fund. The examination is o pen to qualified high school sen iors and to a limited number of high school sophomores and jun iors of exceptional ability and promise. Last week the fast-balling right hander went into court to answer charges of assault and battery a gainst Ulysses Ross. 36, of East Or ange, N. J. Tiie charges grew out of a fight at a local tavern owned by Newk. On trial also in connection with the incident were his two brother;, Norman and Harold. More than enough feature-length motion pictures were released dur ing 1958 to offer entertainment seekers a different film fare each day for a full year, a survey of “Oscar Eligibles" revealed last week. Almost two-thirds of the 396 pictures released last year, which meet the requirements for Acad emy Awards consideration, were in black and white, and approxi mately one-third were produced outside the United States. Only those feature * length motion pictures shown com mercially in Eos Angeles for a 7-day period are eligible for Academy Awards, although separate recognition is affnred the best foreign language film of the year and films compet ing in that category need not meet tins requirement. Most eligible English lan guage films made abroad last year were produced in Eng land—s 4. France made 85, Italy IQ, Germany 6, and Japan 5. The remaining 13 came from Spain, Greece. Sweden. Cana da, Africa, Austria, and Mex ico, Production in the United States accounted for 212 motion pictures. By title, pictures were shown un der names beginning with every letter of the alphabet except “X".
