\F 120 ZION’S LANDMARKS CoxviLLE, Pitt County, N. C., | June 12th, 1869. Brother Bodenhamer :—I have just returned home from my route of appointments up the country. As some of the brethren and sisters ex pressed a desire to hear from me after I got home, [ have concluded to write you a few lines for publica*' tion. I left home the 12th of May, reached Kinston, Lenoir county, cn the 18th ; got on the cars, and reach ed High Point the 14th, where Elder Burns met me and I went home with him. The same day we started to the place where the Mayo Associa tion was to convene. Brother Davis and his brother carried us to the As sociation on the 15th, where we met with many strange brethren—chough strangers in the flesh, yet we were not strangers in the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, for they preached Jesus Christ, the way, the truth and the life, and all of grace. So we had a good meeting, and I believe the Lord was with us. A.11 M'as peace so far as 1 know; all soemed to enjoy themselves; each one seeming to esteem others better than themselves. They looked so to me and 1 felt so, and we parted Avith each other with a hope of n^eeting yi a better Avorld ; so I. enjoyed myself. We returned to the Railroad with the brethren and friends; stayed with Brother Burns part of 7’uesday night, and then took the train to Haw River, There I left the Railroad, to travel through a strange country Avhere I kucAV no person. You that have travelled, ina}^ guess at some of my feelings, but I met AVith very kind brethren and friends, who treat ed me better than I deserved. I met the brethren, sistDrs and friends at all my appointments, and tried to preach the Gospel to them, although sometimes I was in the dark, so that ’t seemed to mo that all I said Avas to no purpose, and felt that I had better been at home ; I felt so little j and mean, and could see so much im perfection in me, that I Avas not fit for a ])rcachcr; and brethren, if I am, surely one of the least. But sometimes 1 felt the presence of the good Lord Avith mo, enabling me to apeak of his goodness, as I believe. 1 feel thankful to the brethren and friends for their kindness in assisting me along on my route. I got home »afc and in good health, and found iny family all well as couimon. I can't teli hoAv thankful I Avas to God for his mercy and goodness bestowed j on us, poor offenders and disobedient creatures as we are. So, brethren, farewell; I never expect to see you all again. May God bless you and give you grace to serve him, and keep you from going into error, but that you may prove an honor to the cause of God while you live, that when you leave this Avorld you shall be rest—for there remaineth a rest the people of God.
