T 18 A ZION’S LANDMARKS I am told by that which cannot lie, that the fruite of the spirit are love, joy, peace, long suffering, and so on. And noty, my dear brethren, where are those precious fruits ? In- ([uire only for a moment after that glorious principle, to wit, love, cio you find it by. diligent ^search.? You may now and then meet with that divine principle which emanated from the throne of God, and is the com panion only of the saints of God.— I know the vVorld is full of what slie calls joy, but it appears, to me that it springs from the spirit of mastery or proselyting, that now infests the world. Depraved, fallen, yea, and proud nature, forbids the idea, of m,en sub mitting fo the plain truths, laws, and o’dinane'es of Christ, as delivered un to hi? church. On the other hand, the thoughts of living out of the ; church docs not agree with their -'leelings;-therefore, in’,order,to , give seme kind of rest to the mind, they form societies, give them such .laws and ordinances as they th.ink proper and then tell the public tins society is at least a branch of the church of* Christ. And then 'for proselyting, and.the more membere the more joy; Avliiie the spirit of Christ appears to be ];noAvn but littlo amongst them. O .Ap.d y^t, becauseffbey increase in ■ numbers, they tell us„they are the clpivcli of .Jesus Christ. Alid upon this principle, the church of Home And T am at a loss to know, accord ing to the do and live system, how we are to be saved ; for 1 hear the Lord say, by the mouth of Paul^ there is none that doeth good, no not one.
