Fall River, Kansas, \ August 15, 1871. ) Editors Zion’s Landmarks:— Seeing in a copy of your paper, that you recRiost those of the same faith to Avrite to the Landmarks, I write this short communication, which is at your disposal. The Apostle Paul upon one oc casion asked the question, of the Corinthian brethren : “Is Christ di- Auded; avus Paul crucilied,” &c. I haA’e never seen but two copies of tile Landmarks, but as far as I haA^e read, I find the same testimo ny that is giA-en by all true Baptist authority; and, I am made to be- lieve, truly, that the Avhole family of God are taught in the same school, for it seems that they all see, eye to eye, and speak the same thing, for I learn that Christ is the head and AA'e are the body, and all mem bers one of another; then the ques tion is properly asked, “Is Christ diAuded.^” Paul says. Let there-be no division among you. Christ [irayed the Father that they may be one as we are one, I in the Father and the Father in me, so may they be one in ns. Now it is not many, hilt one body, and it having many members—one body in whom the whole building, fitly framed togeth er groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord, in whom we are also build- together for a habitation of God through the spirit. Again, the whole body joined together and compacted by that Avhich every joint supplieth according to the effectual Avorking in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto edifying of its self in love, it groAvs up into liim in all things AA'ho is the head, even Christ. But, noAv the Apostle saw tliat there Avere divisions among tliem. in regard to the The\‘ catuiot slug redeinptiou. For the3’’ve not been redeemed, But you may sing redemption, Through ClirKt, the glorious King. VVe’li sing .aloud his praises. When we in heaven shall iie, ..And shout, and give him glory Through all eternity. M. P. matter men tioned, and say.s, Was Paul crnci- iied for yon; is Christ divided.^ if not, Avhy then are some for Paul and some for Apollos, &c.? lie an- SAvers the question himself: It is risen again Clirist that died, yea, rather that is So then, Christ is not divided, as some teach, saying that the Roman Catholic church Avas once an orthodox body and became cor rupt; Avas reformed by Henry the VIII, and again became corrupt, from whence all the daughters of the harlot’s mother, all claiming to he pure, yet they say their mother was corrupt. Now, can a clean thing come out of an unclean.'^ Can the same fountain send forth hitter wa ter and SAveet, or can the fountain rise above its hcad.^ Now, if we admit any one of these creeds to he correct, then Christ is divided, and some are for Luther, some for Cal vin, some for Wesly and some for Campbell; and at this present day there are six hundred or more of these classes, all claiming the name but denying the poAver; all claiming to be members of the body, yet not in union. If there is no union there is no love, and if no love, they are not of God for God is love. But I think I see in the contem plation of my thoughts, a little, hand who are not members with the aboA^e, for they are the number of a man, but these are the number of Christ. Hence Balaam says, Lo, and the peo ple shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations of the earth. Christ says. Ye are not of the world, tor I have chosen yon out of the Avorld; if you were of the Avorld the world Avould love its own, but you are not of the world, there fore the world hateth you, but if it hate you it hated me before it hated yon; hence there is no life manifest ed only in Christ, and that given to us by sovereign grace through sov ereign mercy, which was the theme of the apostles, the theme of churches in early days, the theme of all true believers in ancient days as well as the theme of God’s children noAv, and they being the salt of the earth, , by that tlieme, and the same not I having lost its savor, and it being I the poAver of God, Ave are kept by it j through faith unto salvation, ready i to he revealed at the last time, Avheii NO. 2-i. God shall sAveep away the refuge ol‘ lies and take his children home to enjoy the climes of immortal l)lis^ Yours in hope, IRA TURNER. Elder L. I. Bodenhamee: J)ear BroOier (as I hope in Ch7'ist):—Yon are aware that I am not a subscriber for you paper, yet I frequently have the pleasure of reading its columns. Seeing your request for communi cations, I have concluded to Avrite you a few lines for you disposal. I do not wish to burden your readers with a long experience, hut j list simply make a fcAv statements. I have been a member of the Primitive Baptist church for forty years, and for the greater portion of this time, I have been endeavoring to present Christ us the Avay, the truth and flic life. Though I have long been try ing to preach, yet I have been ac tive in my attempt to quit, still I continue to try. Although I feel imptessions, my great desire is, that I may he counted worthy to labor in the cause of Christ. Many long years ago, I Avas inti mately acquainted Avith a dear sis ter, Nancy Dutton, who reinoA^ed to some portion of the West, whence she wrote me, that she had heard I had changed my doctrinal tenets. I heard soon after that she had again moA’'cd, and not knoAAdiig her post office, and tlie AA’ar inter\Tuiing, I never had an opportunity to re spond. So I never heard any thing more about whan she was, until 1 saw her name in Jion’s Landmarks, through which ^ have concluded to answer. I was a menlier of tlie Bajitist church before ay division arose. 1 joined these Oh Baptist, in Ruth erford county, Nrth Carolina, abonr the year J827.
