Can yi.u jrive us the cause? T. I. Adams. Tho above complaint is common nil over the county. AH we tan say is that the Dkmih i:.vt is mailel regular ly at this ivdhv every Thurs day, ami weivrtainlyareuot iesKnsihle for the d-lav and missrurria-reof the mails through the country. The pot t masters oujht t( look nfter this matter, as there is no doubt, curelessm ss an. I Hewlett somewheie. Tost of-: tiees and mail routes are for the convenience of thepeoj J uml the public has to pay the expense, thenfore ouht to be treated fairly, Quite of tenweluarof packages be ing sent on the w rong routes. , Of course this is sheer care ; lessness on thepart f post ; masters. We hope this w i'l cause better attention to the mails of the county. Post masters some times make uu j avoidable mistakes, but it ought not to occur so often. J We received from H. C. Mar tin, at Wowing Rock, a tele-, gin m announcing the death of den. Collet t Leventhorpc. at his brother in laws, Mr. Will .Tones, on the 1st inst.. at 2 p.m. Also that Ear m'st Ilea II died at Lenoir on the. same day at 11a. in. He was a son of the Rev. 15. L. Reall, whoisso well known through this county. As to (Jen. LeventhorpeV death, it has been expected si. tilt fr mi iff i ivli'ln mvino .to his disease. We had a let ter from him written on Fri day, before his death on Sun day, in which he stated he was better. He hasbeen one of our most intimate fiietiMs for a number of years, and we regarded him as one of the grandest men we ever knew, e was so honest, up right and intelligent. Few men ever acquired such a fund of information on all subjects. He was a member of the Episcopal Church, liv ing a piouf Christian life. His age must have been sev enty five years. We greatly regret the loss of such friends. To his good wife who was so devoted to him, we extend our deepest sympathy. They leave no children. Actions of the Roard of Co. Commissioners. All county officers filled bonds nnd approved by the Hoard. The buididing committee rweived the new jail from the contractor, and reported to Commissioners, which was approved and the keys deliv ered to the Sheriff. Seven hundred dollars was paid on the contract, and bonds issu ed covering the contract of o,000. It is considered that we have the best jail in the western part of the State ex cepting Ashville. X.N. Col vard is appointed jailor. Several road cases are be fore the board for considera tion at the hour of go;ng to press but we are unable to get the items. The board of education was also in ses sion. Quite a number of cit itizens were in town Monday and all seemed to be lively, but a great cry for money, was heard. The Sheriff got all there was in circulation and still he wants more. :n an .Vv ..!l tV : . a i oil of i ! .ds may M ..)
