She has been among her people at Sands for several months. Several cases of measles in the 1 home of Mr. W. \l. Deceased was a son of Alex Brown, of Watauga, who died on Brushy Fork some few years ago. His uncle Rev. Geo. Brown and wife of Boone attended the funeral. A new Jail is one of our crying needs at the present. The deplorable getaway last week would not have occurred had it not been lor the fact v.hat the jailer was trying to arrange for the prisoners to ali get to a single toilet the only or.* provided in the entire building. To put it mildly the whole outfit is a disgrace to the county. Taxes are high i>ut the need of a better prison is imperative. Don't you think so Mr. Taxpayer. ? All holes and ruts in the hard surfaced road were first iiiled with a mixture of crushed stone md tar. Then another coat of tar .vas applied to the whole surface and itop it a heavy layer of finely crush-1 d stone. Jeffcoat and parish helper, Miss Cora JefTcoat, returned Monday from Holy Communion near Valle Crucis, where they had been conducing a church school and several days service. As a result of these services there were seven accessions to the rhurch. Pastor Jeffcoat preached to liaige congregation at l^utcn v-reeK on Sunday evening. Mr. L. L. Norris who recently moved to Boone is in the community for several days, looking after his farm. Mr. Joe Burkett and Howard Hodges of Banners Elk left Monday with pastor Jeff coat for the Western Conference of Evangelical Lutheran Church which is being held at China Grove, Rowan County ten miles beyond Salisbury.
