On Highway 17, between Blowing
Sock and Lenoir, a car wreck occurred
late' Sunday evening which
might have been hiost disastrous, but
fortunately rib one was seriously
hurt. Mr; Charles Hagaman, of Hickory
and two young men in a Ford
were driving dqfwn the mountain,
^ Mr. Hagaman in the rear. Car No.
1 attempted to pass No. 2, and the
result was that the front one was
left a hopeless wreck beside the
highway. Just jvhc was to blame, we
r ' would not venb&lfe to say, as We arrived
on the scene during the argument
that always follows an accident

Mrs. W. C. Coffey had a .fuilting
last week and nearly all the ladies
of the town were out. Reports say
that they had the joliicst time known
for years; many jokes were void and
much laughing done. Mrs. Coffey's
dinnei is praised by all who participated.
James H. Bryan is new the owner
of a large pet bear. He is the one
formerly owned by Captain Jordan
Cook and is a very interesting pet.
