lady has been seriously ill for the
pest several days, but is now thought
to be slightly improved.
Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Herring, Mrs.
Howard Tallcy and son, Howard Jr.,
all of Wilmington. N. C'., arc visiting
at the home of Mrs. James Mast
on Cove Creek.
Messrs. Daniel Peters, F. D. 11:?der
and II. W. Concnlmver, all of
Sullivan County, Tennessee, visited
in Boone Monday. Mr. Peters is a
cousin of Editor Rivers.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Menzies, of
Hickory, and Mr. and Mrs. Johnson
Avery, of Lenoir, visited Lieutenant
and Mrs. John Harman in Boone
Monday.
Little Miss Helen Hodges, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Hodges,
has returned from State Sanatorium
where she has; been a patient for
several months. Her health is said
to be greatly improved.
Mrs. Addic B. Littie, who has been
spending several months in Charlotte
and Salisbury, is at the home of her
daughter. Mrs. Suma Hardin, in
Boone, where she will remain during
the summer.

Colonel Wade II. Harris, editor of
the Charlotte Observer. Mrs. Harris,
a son and daughter-in-law, wore visitors
over the week-end in Blowing
Rock. They mingled with friends in
Bootio for a few minutes Monday.
Mr. Ralph Farthing opened a tea
room in the Cot troll Store building
on lost Friday, and sandwiches ice
cream and fruits arc being dispensed.
The business will be named by some
student at the College, when the result
of a contest being conducted is
announced.
The J. L). Rorton garage svhich
lias been conducted for several years
in the original Ford Garage Build
ing on Depot Street, has been moved
to the building in West Boone, formerly
occupied by the West End Garage.
Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Isaacs, of
Lynchburg, VaM are spending tvo
weeks visiting with relatives ir. this
county. They have been in Virginia
for mere than fifteen year?, and this
is the second trip made back to Watauga.

Mr. ami Mrs. Roseo Brown and
baby, of Butte. Mont., arrived in
Boone last week, where they contemplate
making their future home. Mr.
B'owr. is a son of Mr. Roby Brown.
Boone Route 2, is a veteran of two
wars, and has many friends in the
county who will be glad to learn
that he has decided to permanently
locate here.
Mrs. X. L. Mast has returned to
her home on Cove Creek, after having
spent several weeks with her
brothel, \V. J. Horton, at Farrell.
Pe.nn-, who recently suffered a serious
attack of pneumonia. Mrs.
Mast reports that Mr. Horton is rapidly
regaining his strength, and is
expected to lully recover from his
illness.
Mrs. W. 1.. Winkler and daughter.
Cleele. who have been spending the
winter months on their extensive
plantation in Georgia, arrived at the
Winkler Home, .Shulls Mills R. F. I).,
which they have opened for summer
, guests. They were accompanied byMr.

Attorney 0. C. Fletcher, Federal
title inspector with headquarters in
Athens. Tenn., is spending several
days visiting with friends and relatives
in this community, and recuperating
from a recent rather serious
illness. ITe expects to return to his
work about the first of the month.
His friends will be glad to know that
indications ere mnv be returned
to North Carolina headquarters this
fall. He is accompanied here by a
daughter, Mrs. O. B. Barnhardt, of
Lenoir.
A small daughter of .Mr. and Mis.
Bill Banner of the Cove Creek section
was thought to have been seriously
injured Sunday afternoon
when struck by an automobile tn the
New River bridge, where a great
throng of people were watching the
flights of I.ieutenant Harman's airplane.
The child was rushed to the
Watauga Hospital, where it was discovered
that although temporary un
consciousness had resulted, the little
child was not seriously injured. Shi
accompanied her parents home the
same afternoon.
