Mrs. H. McD. Little is spending a
few weeks at her home in Boone

Miss Masie Jean Jones is spending
the week visiting wlL- relatives in
Winston-Salem. N. C.
Mrs. Buck Williams is spending
two weeks with her parents. Mr. and
Mrs. J. F. Moore.

Miss Vivian Carter is showing satisfactory

operation performed at Grace
Hospital, Banner Elk, last Friday.
Chief of Police R. L. Rankin of
Salisbury, Mrs. Rankin and son, Billy,
spent the week-end visiting in the
home of Chief Rankin's brother, Dr.
J. D. Rankin.
Miss Martha Moore has returned
to her home here after spending
some time with her sister, Mrs. Buck
Williams, in Mt. Holly, and friends

Mrs. Asa Wilson has returned to
her home at Silverstone after spending
a very enjoyable six weeks with
her cousin, Mrs. Leah Dougherty, in
Russellville, Tenn.
Mrs. Jennie Critcher and family
have moved into their recently purchased
home in East Boone, the former
Frank Moore residence. The old
Critcher Hotel, it is said, is soon to
be torn down.
Prof. E. J. Abernethy and mother,
Mrs. It. Lr. Abernethy, of Rutherford
College, were guests over the weekend
at the home of Dr. and Mrs. J.
D. Rankin. Mrs. Rankin is the daugh,
ter of Mrs. Abernethy.
The degree team from Daniel
Boone Chapter, Jr. O. U. A. M., headed
by Councillor W. O. Robertson,
were in Spruce Pine Monday evening
where they conferred the degrees of
the order for the neighboring organization.
Mrs. John Rhyne of Charlotte is a

where she recently underwent a serious
operation. Reports, however, indicate
that she is recovering satisfactorily.
Mrs. Rhyne is a sister to
Attorney Charles Zimmerman, of
Boone.
Mr. S. J. Cole of Welch, W. Va,
was called back to his home on Route
2 over the week-end on account of
the illness of Mrs. Cole. However,
she is improving and Mr. Cole was
able to return to his work today.
Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Coffey of Lin^
poln Park, Mich., left on their return
( nome Saturday after having spent
* three weeks visiting witli relatives
in the county. The Coffeys, native
Wataugana. have resided in Michigan
for the past 12 years.
Judge Newman, wife and two sons
Of Titusville, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. R.
\V Dean, Miss Donnella Dean and
Mi Robert Dean of Bunnell, Fla.,
who are spending the summer In Mrs.
Emma Moore's house, Mr. and Mrs.
C. \V. Teal and son, Charles, left Sunday
for a visit through the Valley of
Virginia to Washington and other
points of interest.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roark, wife and
baby daughter, Mary Ruth, of
Charleston. W. Va., have been spending
a week visiting with home folks
in the Beaver Dam section. Mr. Roark
is recuperating from an operation for
appendicitis recently performed.
Rev. and Mrs. R. L. Brown and
two small sons of Webster, Iowa, are
spending four weeks visiting with
Mr. Brown's mother, Mrs. Mary
Brown, in Boone, and with other home
folks and friends in the town and
county.
Mr. Thomas H. Hine of Johnson
City, Tenn., arrived in town Thursday
and Is spending some days visiting
at the home of Attorney and Mrs.
W. R. Lovill. Mr. Hine, a native of
Boone, is well remembered by the
older residents of the community. For
more than fifteen years he was principal
accountant for the C. C. & O.
Railway at Johnson City.
Maids and Matrons Entertained

Mrs. Douglas Redmond entertained
members of the Maids and Matrons
Club and additional guests at the
home of Mrs. W. C. Greer on Friday
evening. Several progressions of contract
were enjoyed, the attractive
prizes being won by Mrs. Baxter Linney
and Mrs. Paul Coffey, who played
high for guests and club members.
The hostess, assisted by Miss Erie
Greer, served tempting refreshments
in two courses.

number of little guests recently at
her new country home, in honor of
her little son, Ralph's, fifth birthday.
! The rooms were beautifully decorated
j with pink and white sweet peas, and
pink China roses.
Many interesting games were
played and then all gathered in a
circle for the opening of the gifts.
He received many beautiful presents.
The children were called to the
dining room. A beautiful birthday
' cake holding five pink candles and
; trimmed with pink rosebuds, graced
j the table. Delicious ice cream, cake
I and punch was served. Little haskets
' filled with mints and sweet peas were
1 given as favors.

Mina Harmon, Beech Creek: Emma
Davenport, Butler, Tonn.; W. G. Guy.
Reese: Henry Guy, Butler: Mrs. Julia
Phillips, West Jefferson.
Mrs. Guy was the widow of J. H.
Guy, and was a native of Caldwell
County, having moved to Watauga in
early life. She was a consistent and
active member of the Baptist Church,
and much admired for her Christian
traits of character.

during the illness, death and burial
