COVE CREEK SCHOOL NEWS The Cove Creek district school will observe Thanksgiving holi days from Wednesday afternoon of this week until Monday Dec ember 2. Christmas holidays will begin December 19 and school will re main closed until Tuesday morn ing December 31. The following menu was served by the high school cafeteria, Wednesday, November 27: Tur key, dressing, cranberry sauce, rice, fruit salad, hot rolls, and milk. Under the leadership of the athletic committee a pep club has been organized at our school. Of ficers have been elected as fol lows to serve this club of 25 mem bers President, Laura Judy; vice president, Zelah Gragg; secretary and treasurer, Marjorie Mast, reporter, Nannie Helen Greene. On Wednesday of last week the 9th grade girls home-room pre sented a dramatization of the life of Captain JtShn Smith. This en tertainment was given as a chapel I program and was directed by Wakefield. I Recent activities of the boys and girls scout troops have been the securing of a room for scout meetings and the preparing of this room. The boys have made lockers which fold under the seats. The girls have made cur tains and arc helping with the painting of the wall*. Within a short time they hope to have an attractive as well as a convenient place for meetings. Last Friday Cove Creek and Bethel clashed in basketball for the opening game of the season. Both boys and^girls teams par ticipated. The Red Raiders won with a score of 48-23. The boys on Cove Creek's first team are: Dean Wilson, Willis Farthing, Richard Minton, Jimmy Mast, and Len Stokes. The second team is made up of Lee Greene, Carl Greene, Raymond Harmon, J. D. Younce, Junior Danner, and John J. Bingham. # High scorers of the game were Richard Minton and Lee Greene with 12 points each. Coach Ors WALKER'S JEWELRY STORE BOONE, N. The Cove Creek girls won over Bethel with a score of 21-16. Members of the squad are Nan nie Helen Greene, Dottie Miller, Peggy Bingham, Joyce Hensun, Chilene Banner. Faith Thompson, Dixie Rae Farthing, Sarah John son, and Jean Mast. Three other members are still to be selected. Good playing was done by both the team from Bethel and the home girls. Letters To Santa Dear Santa Claus: I would like 3 sled to r Christmas if you can possibly get one. If you can't you can bring me anything you want to. I would appreciate anything such as books, games, or anything. 1 would like for you to bring mother and father a bedspread for their bed in the new house if you can get Mrs. Claus to make one. Sighting a large buck in the fields behind her home. Mrs. Ralph W. Luce, who just a few days before had returned home from the hospital where she had given birth to her' fifth child, sent her eldest son, Ralph, 13, to shoot the animal. Changing her mind, she called him back to watch the sleeping baby and went out herself and bagged the 225-pound, eight-point deer. Byrd and Taber both renew calls for U. S. job cuts.
