TOBACCO GRADING
DEMONSTRATION ?'
In order for the farmers to re
ceive the top price for each grade
of tobacco, he will need to make
as many grades as his tobacco al
lows. Each year farmers lose
money because they have their
grades mixed. In order to help
the farmers have a better under
standing of the different grades,
a government grader will be here
to give four tobacco grading de
monstrations in the county. The
schedule is as follows:

Members of all Home Demon
stration Clubs in Watauga county
will meet together for their an
nual Federation and Achieve
ment Day on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
The meeting will begin promptly
at 10 a. m at the Baptist Church
in Boone with the president, Mrs.
A. A. Greene of Deep Gap, pre
siding.
At the morning session, reports
will be given of each club's
achievements during the past
year. The highlight of the morn
ing session will be the talk by
Mrs. Walter Pike of Henderson
ville. Mrs. Pike represented the
Western District Home Demon
stration Clubs at the world meet
ing held in Holland during Sep
tember, and she is expected to
give an interesting report on her
trip.
A small fair will be held in
connection with the meeting,
with the women exhibiting their
skill in foods, clothing, handi
crafts and canning. A number of
Boone merchants have donated
some very nice prizes for this
event. These will be awarded at
the afternoon session by Mrs.
Pauline Hotchkiss of Raleigh,
Western District agent. Mr*
Hotchkiss will also award a gavel
to the club receiving the most
points for number of women
present and the number of miles
traveled.
HOME DEMONSTRATION
COUNTY COUNCIL
At 2 p. m. on Thursday, Oct.
23, the officers of all the Home
(Demonstration Clubs in Watauga
county will meet at the home
agent's office. This is a very
important meeting and all offi
cers are urged to attend.
Final announcements will be
made for the annual Achieve
ment Day to be held Wednesday,

Gross earnings of farmers are ex
pected to show a 10 per cent in

nual value of farm production per
worker expanded from $300 In 1870
to $2,500 in 1945.
REA cooperatives pay private
utilities at the rate of more than
100 million dollars per year for elec
tricity. which they purchase at
wholesale and retail to their mem
