Umoii Taxi: Luke 4: 14-20] Mark 4i M-Mj Luka 17. 20-Sls Romans 14i 17. In His teachings, Jesus spoke very frequently of the "Kingdom of Heaven." By word and ana logy he sought to acquaint his disciples with its nature, its method of origin and growth, and the desirability of its glori ous advent. The term was used to refer both to the immediate acceptance of its principles by individuals and to the eventual inauguration of the golden era when all men were included. Jesus began using parables in his teaching so that his hostile critics would be handicapped in their effort to attack him and be cause this form of teaching, a familiar one to the Eastern mind, would lend itself to subsequent contemplation by those who heard him, when the truth hidden therein would become known. "Unto you is given the mys tery of the Kingdom of God." Jesus said to his disciples as he began his first parable. There fore, they would "have the re sponsibility of sharing this reve lation with the rest of mankind and of making the divine truth available to all who sought it. Most of the heathen religions built up a superstitious worship by means of secret and hidden ceremonies. The Kingdom of God was to have none of these, for, as Jesus said, nothing is hid or made secret but that it should be revealed to man. The measure of man's reception of divine truth is not the willingness of deity to reveal it but the ability of man to receive and interpret Q Western Auio A?fcaStore ( I : | WhileYou J Try BiSMAREX for Acid Indigestion. HI-LAND CLEANERS j Main Street I I I Boone 1 ; i it That is why men in different ages have understood the pur pose of God in different waya. Jesus was anxious that His fol lowers be not misled as to the nature of His kingdom. Many people wonder what was meant by the term, "Kingdom of God," and it would probably be better (rasped by realizing that it means the same as the "reign of 3od," a time when the hearts of mankind will be governed by the eternal principles of love, right eousness and other attributes of the divine spirit. Man has made great progress towards solving the processes of nature and science but he lias not yet found the secret of life. This is still locked in the iivine mind. Jesus said that his kingdom was as a man who planted seed in the ground and then went about his ordinary af fairs. The marvelous process of life caused the seed to sprout, to pow and finally bear fruit So, those who are interested in the advancement of His kingdom can io their best and trust in the certain response that will come, developing and magnifying the growth of the kingdom. Jesus was engaged in a world program for all time, yet the beginning of his movement was extremely modest, even insigni ficant compared to its final goal, rhe Parable of the Mustard Seed was to prevent disparage ment of a small beginning. The external growth of the church is ;xemplified by the mustard tree, springing and growing from a very small seed. From a few men, with no organization, the Christian faith has grown to in clude 500,000,000 people, one third of the world's population ? a far-off goal to the twelve mod erately trained apostles upon whose effort the future so largely depended. No eye can follow the growth of the mustard tree. So. with Christian living, its steady quiet irresistible influence conquers, rhere is no necessity for pro maiming its nature, for it will accomplish its mission slowly, inevitably, and without question. This is reassuring to the faith ful adherents of the kingdom. As one writer has stated, the significance of the kingdom of God may Se seen both in the lives of individuals and in the impact that it makes upon the world. The kingdom of God re lates its members to the redemp tive will of God. Jesus Christ alone can bring men and women into the kingdom, for by personal faith in him, the believer be comes a citizen of the kingdom of God. The acknowledgement of the "reign of God" in one's life im parts the dynamic for Christian living. Dr. W. T. Conner has re marked that "the will of God is the law of the Kingdom." There fore, obedience to God's will al ways manifests itself in a holy and fruitful life. Dr. H. Ross Greet declare*, "Literally millions of people pray every day, 'Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth.' For what do we pray? That God may rule everywhere on earth in every heart as well as in my heart, that people everywhere may acknowledge his authority, that he may be the king at the center of our being. That each one of us may be a member of his Realm, his Kingdom, his Family, by surrendering our wills to him and seeking above all things to do what he wants done. That each one of us may carry out his plans, not our own." Cherry Backs Drive For Crippled Children Raleigh ? Generous contribu tions for the work of the North Carolina League for Crippled Children, which opens its annual Easter Seal campaign through out the State today, was urged in a statement yesterday by Governor R. Gregg Cherry. "The league is doing one of the most worthwhile services in our State," Jhe Governor's statement said. . Medical care and educational opportunities "were provided in the Old North Stat* for 5,454 handicapped children last year," the Governor said. "Besides these direct services to individual children, the Lea gue also conducted special de monstrations in the field of edu cation for handicapped children," he added. girl Swimmer wihb FATHER DIES Philadelphia, Pa; ? It is always a shock to look at the calendar and realize that some friend's birthday or an niversary has just pasted and you have neglected to send a gift or a card. Here then is the solution: Be fore tacking up a new calendar at the first of each year, go through and encircle in red the dates for all the special birthdays and anniversaries. Then as the days and weeks and months pass, the red circles will serve as re-' minders and no friends will have been forgotten. For semi-annual freshening up, feather pillows should be aired on a cloudy, windy day rather than allowed to hang in the sun. The sun draws the natural oil out of the feathers and destroys their resiliency. The bottom of the scouring powder can will not leave rust marks on bathroom fixtures if it is dipped in hot parrafin. A yearly weeding out of worn out kitchen utensils, and other odds and ends, will get rid of dust collectors, save extra work and valuable storage space. ? GOLDEN RULE WORKS Paris, 111. ? Not so long ago, Mrs. Albert Brown, of Chrism an, found a wallet containing money. She left it at a newspaper office and advertised for its owner, re fusing to leave her name and address, with the explanation: "Never mind that, I don't want a reward for I might lose my: own pocketbook some day."! Within a week, a police officer found a purse and money in the courthouse yard. He left it. at the newspaper offifce and waived any reward. The purse was Mrs. Brown's.
