Goes to Michigan
John T. Meredith, for the pail
several months leader of the
Christian church congregation at
Foscoe. left last week for Kal
kaska. Michigan. He has begun
bis duties as minister of the
Christian chureh there.
In addition ' to serving the
church at Foscoe, Mr. Meredith
led in the work of the Minnea
polis and Heaton churches. He
came to North Carolina irom
Sturgis, Kentucky last August.
He is a native of East Tennessee.
After attending Milligan College,
he was teacher in the public
schools of Carter and Sullivan
counties in Tennessee .For some
time, Mr. Meredith held the posi
tion as principal of the high
? school at White Pine, Tennessee.
As a minister of the gospel, he
went for full-time service with
the church at Jackson, Michigan.
From there he went to Ridge
town, Ontario, Canada. In the
jnorthern part of the province, he
jpioneered in establishing church
'es, until after four years, was
liorced by bad health to return to
Tennessee. There, three and a
,half years of evangelism was
(given to the Appalachian Evan
gelizing Association. From Eliza
jbethton, Mr. Meredith answered
>a call to the church at Victoria,
?Virginia, where for three years
.he led in a highly consturctive
service for the whole area. From
^Victoria, he went to Sturgis, Ky.

til he was called to the work in

August 1947.

church is James David Rose, of
Homestead, Pennsylvania.

A serious crime was commit
ted every 18.9 seconds in the
United States and its possessions
lin 1947, according to the annual
(report of the FBI. The 1947 aver
age is about the same as that for
1946, which reached an all-time
peak in crime. During each pas
sing hour in 1947, twelve per
sons were raped, feloniously as
saulted or killed, 49 were held
up and robbed or had their
places burglarized, and 21 others
had their cars stolen. In addition,
108 miscellaneous larcenies were
committeed each hour.
