Student Council plans were per fected for a magazine sales con test All members of the council sre eligible for the contest which will close November 18. A first prize of $3.00 will be awarded to the student securing the most subscriptions and prizes of $3.00 and $1.00 will be given to the students in second and third place respectively. An extensive list of magazines is offered and the council members will be glad to secure both new and renewal subscriptions from anyone inter ested. Mrs. Henson's section of the eighth grade organized by elec ting the following officers: Presi dent, Bower Thomas; vice-presi dent, Martin Banner; secretary, Cleo Thomas; treasurer, Helen Main; program committee, Joan Welch, Eva Hell Teems, Kathryn Thompson. Brief ;vime-room pro grams will be given twice each week and other activities carri ed out throughout < year. A new screen has been pur chased and the projector has been repaired so that much bet ter pictures can be expected this year. The first picture of the year will be given on Wednesday, November 10. The 4-H club met with Miss Betty Matheson and Mr. Kirk man on Thursday and elected the following officers: President, Carlton Elliott; program chair man, Frances Davis; secretary, Richard Yates; vice-president, Hugh Hag am an; reporter, Car men Hodges; song leader, Patsy Ann Swift. Mr. Carl Fidler, chairman of the Physical Education group for western North Carolina, attended a meeting of his committee in Asheville on Thursday of last week. Plans were made for an increased emphasis on health and physical fitness together with an improved program of intramural sports. Further announcements concerning plans for the year will be made later. Mr. S. F. Horton, Vice-presi dent of the Northwestern District of the North Carolina Education Association, attended the district meeting in High Point on Friday. Mr Ralph F. Hen dricks, teacher in the Guilford county schools and S. F. Horton. F. F. A. News Sixteen members of the FFA chapter attended the Slate Fair in Raleigh last ?eek They west down Thursday afternoon with their sponsor, R. G. Shipley, and returned Saturday. For most of the boys it was their first trip to the Fair and the capitol city. They were thril led by the fine livestock and farm exhibits as well as their experi ences on, "Trip to the Moon" and other such features of the fair, Sherwood Bingham exhibited the Parkway Federation Here ford bull which he is keeping He won fourth place in the open class and fifty dollars in the FFA bull show. After seeing everything at the fair the boys went down to the Capitol and the State Museum. Except for the cool weather they had a most enjoyable and educa tional trip. While there Mr. Shipley at tended a dinner meeting with Governor-nominate ? Scott, Com missioner of Agriculture Col trane. Fair manager Dorton and a large number of agricultural leaders of the state to discuss plans for enlarging the facilities of the State Fair. A building pro gram will probably get under way this year which will include a large coliseum and a junior livestock building among the (irst buildings. FFA FUld Day Several members of the chap ter toop part in the recent Park w.iy Federation Field day meet. The chapter won all the soft ball games except the last in which they were defeated by Sparta for the championship. Tommy E. Toundsend ran the 50 yard and 100 yard dash for the chapter and won second and third in them. Robert Hollars was third in the high jumping. Junior Danner and Moody won their first horseshoe game.
