On last Tueaday evening the
young people of Boone enjoyed
quite a pleasant sociable at the
residence of Dr. W. B. Council),
given in honor of the highly ao
complisned Miss Mamie Moors,
of Ala., and Dr. Jeff B. Council!,
of Salisbury. "Beauty, intangible,
vague and ill-to-be-defined, and
that la mightier than Manoah'a
son," threw her bewitching
charms around the hearts of the
young men. while the rareat
music, both vocal and instrumen
tal rendered by the talented
Misses Council! and visitors,
made an occasion long to be re
membered by those who were in
attendance.

scholar this year ia 87 cents.

Monday for Charlotte, where he
will resume his studies in the
North Carolina Medical College.
Robert L. Brown, a Trinity
student, after spending two
weeks of his vacation with home
folks in Boone, left Monday for
Durham, where he will take up
his second year's course in Trin
ity.
Miss Mary Leslie Puliiam, who
has spent the summer at the
home of her uncle, Mr. L. N.
Perkins, has returned to Virginia
Intermont College at Bristol
where she will teach in the Con
servatory of Music.
Dr. Counciil Boyden, who bas
been practicing at Valle Crucis
during the summer, has returned
to Charlotte, where he will en
ter college his fourth and final
year.
Julius C. Blair, of Lenoir, who
has just recovered from an at
tack of fever, is with his parents
on New River for a short stay.
We gladly welcome back to
Watauga Messrs. Everett and
Mack Beach and their families,
who have been in the State of
Washington for the past three
years. They have come to stay,
ufld the county Is to be con
gratulated upon having attrac
tions sufficient to induce them
to return to their native heath.

College at its opening last week.

Department at Washington. D.
C., spent Monday in town shak
ing hands with bis friends of
former days. Mr. Scott wai for
many yean editor of the Lenoir
Topic, and his efforts in the
newspaper field were highly Ap
preciated by the people of thin
entire mountain section, and

Sub-District Meet
Held at Rfrenriew
Approximately 109 persons at
tended the last meeting of the
Methodist Youth Fellowship Sub
District. which was held at Riv
erview Sunday.
The program was under the di
rection of Milton Barden. Alter
a responsive reading, hymn, and
a prayer led by Rev. Mr. Kerr,
Lawrence Barden gave an inter
esting account of the week he
spent recently at the Youth Con
vocation at Purdue University
The theme for meditation during
the convocation was "Chrlatlan
Living for Our Time."
A buslnesx meeting, with Ka
therine Clay presiding, was held
immediately after the program.
The attendance banner, which
is given each month to the church
having the largest attendance,
went to Little Laurel for the sec
ond consecutive time. Nine
churches were represented at the
meeting.
Delicious refreshments were
served in the cafeteria of the
Rivcrvicw school.
