THREE FORKS BROTHERHOOD
The Brotherhood of the Three
Forks Baptist Association will
meet at the Boone Baptist Church
Friday night at 7:00 p. m. The
women of the Boone Baptist
Church will serve supper at one
dollar per plate. The proceeds
will go for the benefit of the
camp for young people of our as
sociation.
We hope every member of our
brotherhood will come and bring
his wife and anyone else he may
invite to this meeting.

FARMERS TO VOTE
ON 'NICKELS' PLAN
Firmer* Have been hearing a
lot lately about "Nickel* for
Know-How. ' What'* it all about*
"Nlckles for Know-How" I* a
plan to expand agricultural re
search and teaching in North
Carolina through a farmer con
tribution of five cent* per ton on
all feed and fertilizer wild in the
State.
The idea wan orginated by
farm leader* of the State. The
1931 General Auembly paaled an
enabling act that give* farm
people the opportunity to con
tribute directly for expanded re
search and education if th*x ap
prove it in a referendum to be
held November 3. The referen
dum i* to be conducted by the
North Carolina Grange and Farm
Bureau and the Agricultural
Foundation, Inc., at State Col
lege.
The Agricultural Foundation,
incidentally, is a corporation
made up of farmer* and farm
leaders for the purpose of re
ceiving gifts or contributions to
support and expanding program
of reaearch and educat'tn.
Farm leaders say North Caro
lina has such a varied climate
and agriculture that more money
is needed to solve the insect,
disease, and weed problems of
farmers. Even the generous ap
propriation* made by the la*t
two legislatures fal.' far short of
the needs. Since farm people
cannot expect more than their
ahare of public fundi, the addi
tional money muit be railed in
lome other way.
In the referendum, all perrom
who use leed or fertilizer, and
their wives or huibandi, will be
eligible to vote. FFA, UFA, and
4-H Club memben with crop or
livestock project* of their own
are alio eligible.
The voting on November 3
will be conducted from 6:30 a.
m, to 6:30 p. m, at the polling
plaoe-uied In the election of
PMA committeemen. No special
registration is required.
If approved by a two-thirds
majority of those voting, the
plan will be effective for three
years.

say a dry cow should be fed not
only grain but should also have
all the silage, good hay, and pas
ture that she will consume.

It ir. a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a
strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization
can survive. There are four sound reasons why
every person should attend services regularly
and support tha Church. They are: (I) For his
own sake. (2? >'or his children's sake. (3) For the
sake of hi? community and nation. (4) For the
sate of the Church itself, which needs his moral
and material support. Plan to go to church regu
larly and read your Bible daily.
