Use a copper spray such aa tri basic cop per sulphate or copper A com-, pound and keep the plants well covered. Don't forget to prepare for a good fall garden. If you have not already done ae, sow seed aa eoen as possible for broccoli cauliflow er, col lard and cabbage plants. These may be grown In flats er boxes for transplanting to pots er (in cans far later transplanting to the field. Broccoli and cauliflow er require more boron than it found in most of our soil*. Boron deficiency causes hollow stems and an internal browning. Te prevent this, mix two level tablespoonsful of common borax with the fertiliz er for 100 feet of row. Three good fall garden craps are Chjnese cabbage, kohlrabi end leaf lettuce. These crops are not found commonly enough in our fall gar dens. Head lettuce does not do , as well in the faU as leaf lettuce. A good variety is "Salad Bowl." There is still time to plant bush snapbeans and small butterbeans for a fall erop. Try Wade, Tender green, Seminole or Topcrop varie ties of snapbeans and Henderson Bush or White Butterpea of the small butterbeans. So This Is New York (continued from page four) Ulysses S. Grant had always been a Democrat until he was nominat ed on the Republican ticket. Be fore the Civil War, he had been cashiered out of the Army and after trying other work unsuccess fully, he was' so down-and-out, he had to pawn his watch in St. Louis for Christmas presents for his family in 1892. The longest con vention was held by the Democrats in 1934 when it took 103 ballots to nominate John W. Davis. On the other hand, George Washing ton was nominated unanimously on the first vote. And so it goes. Our Presidents have been mainly men with few enemies, who were in the 'right place at the right time. Fortunate ly, our Constitution is still so fit ting and effective in most ways, that whoever is nominated and elected is apt to be a pretty good man who will be a credit to the past and a pilot lor our future. * Franco acts to strengthen the Falange party. rUCE-FIUMG Govern meat trust investigators concent i? ted m ctlek of ssserted price-fixing during the first six month* of thi? year, according to Mm-- Justice Department.
