About Your Home I It is natural for young children to discriminate among foods and i to like some better than others. Vegetables with strong odors and sharp flavors are high on the "don't like" list of children. r Many prejudices are only imag I inary. Very often children will not ; eat the foods their parents dislike i For this reason it is wire to pretend at least to eat all foods r around young children. In othei . words, set a good example. Disliked food should never be forced on a child, but encourage him to taste it. If a certain food is pushed aside untasted, It would be a good idea to say, "Take one bite and if you don't like it, leave the rest and eat your dessert." One bite seems like such a little bit that most children will com I ply. Ouite often after he has taken I "just one bite" several times, he I will be over his prejudice and be • gin to enjoy this food. When children are old enough - to understand, explain the value > of certain foods. Make lure they > understand the relationship ol r health and well-balanced meals. Cooperate with them when they ( begin studying nutrition at school Encourage them to help plan th< > "well-blanced" family meals. 1 Learn to cook a large variety ol t foods, so there will be no chanct of mealtime monotony. If th< >- children refuse, after much effort 9 to eat a certain food, experiment with new ways of cooking it.
