We, The Following Candidates, Offer Our Services To The Citizenship Of The City Of Boone, And If Elected, We Pledge Oar Wholehearted Cooperation And Very Best Efforts To Give This City Good Clean Wholesome Government. • This Is The First Time In Several Years The Voters Have Had An Opportunity To Go To The Polls And Make Their Own Selection Between Candidates For The Offices Of Mayor And Aldermen. HERMAN W. WILCOX Candidate for Mayor, Town of Boone Charter member Boone Junior Order. Charter member Boone Lions Club. Served as president Boone Chamber of Commerce 16 years. Came to Boone in 1919. Established motor freight line between Boone and North Wttkesboro and Bristol, Virginia. Organized ETAWNC Motor Truck Lines. Employed by Linville River Railroad Co. in 1920. Was agent in Boone for this railroad when it was washed away in 1940. Served as agent for the motor truck, bus lines and rail* road at the name time for several years. In 1946, he built the present bus terminal which serves two motor truck lines, Western Union, Railway Express Agency, and airlines service. Saw the Chamber of Commerce take an active part in establishing all oar present industries. Charter member of Board of Directors Southern Appalachian Historical Association. Served as director two years of the Northwest North Carolina Development Association, which is meaning so much in the development of our entire county. ; i.' ■' -J ' FREDM. GRAGG Candidate for Alderman, Town of Boone Personnel manager of I.R.C. Former Clerk of Court of Watauga County, 1946-1953. Resigned to take hk present position. Served in United States Navy during World War II. Athletic coach at Bethany School in Rockingham County, 1941*42* DR. WILLIAM M. SMITH Candidate for Alderman, Town of Boone Graduate of Oberlin College 1946. Played professional baseball in Brooklyn Dodgers farm system, 1)4647. Graduate of University of Michigan Medical School, 1950. Interned at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich., 1950 and 1951. Started practice of medicine in Boone on January 1, 1952. Served in United States Navy 1953-55. Resumed practice of medicine in Boone July 1, 1955. Member of Snow Lodge No. 363. Steward in First Methodist Church of Boone. CECIL M. GREENE Candidate for Alderman, Town of Boone Graduate of Appalachian High School. Attended Wake Foreiit College. Served in United States Navy during World War IL After war was salesman for Farmers Hardware St Supply Company la Doone. Now employed by C. M.
