Mrs. Linney Is
Back From Ga.
Mr*. Virginia Wary Linney returned
Saturday from a week in
Atlanta, Ga., where *he attended
the annual NATS (National Auoclation
for Teacher* of Singing)
workihop, which wai held on the
campus of Emory Univeriity.
Mn. Linney appeared on the
program with a demonstration of
basic principle! in the development
of vocal work, and also on •
panel with Walter Golde in concert
i epenury.
In addition to Mr. Golde, others
of national reputation who were
on the program were Victor Alexander
Fields, American educator,
specialist in vocal research, author
and lecturer of New York City;
Dale GUliland of Ohio State University,
concert baritone and eminent
lecturer; Ralph Erralle, former
leading tenor of Metropolitan
Opera Co., and now director of
Opera Art* Association In Atlanta,
Ga.; William Ross of Indiana University,
eminent vocal physicist
and authority on teen-age clan instruction;
and Marguerite Rlngo,
former grand opera star.
Mia* Alene Queen, Appalachian
State Teacher* College graduate,
who i* itudying at the Opera Art*
Auoclatlon in Atlanta, received
mueh praise from thi* group for
her fine performance in the role
of Aid* from the opera of the
*ame name.

Miss Minnie Austin, daughter of
Mr. and Mr*. Colli* Austin of
Boone, became the bride of Robert
Earl Saeed, ton of Mr. and Mr*.
Jew Snead of Laurinburg, Saturday,
August 34, at (even o'clock
in the evening.
The double ring ceremony was
performed in the Fir»t Baptist
Church of Boone by the Reverend
U H. Holllngsworth, pastor, and
the Reverend William Eaton, pastor
of Boone Baptist Mission. The
church was decorated with palm
strands of Oregon fern and baskets
of white gladioli. Three seven-branched
candelabra held white
lighted tapers.
Mrs. Graydon P. Eggers, church
organist, presented a program of
wedding music which included the
traditional wedding marches. Jerry
Hill, vocal soloist, sang "Song of
Ruth," and "The Lord's Prayer."
Miss Austin, who was given In
marriage by her father, wore a
dress of chantilly lace over bridal
satin made with a full skirt coding
in a chapel train. The low
circular neckline was outlined with
seed pearls, and the long sleeves
ended in points over her wrists.
Her fingertip veil of illusion wu
attached to a Juliet cap of seed
pearls and orange blossoms. She
carried a cascade bouquet of white
varigated carnations centered with
a white orchid.
The honor attendant was Miss
Ann Cottrell of Boone. She wore
• street length dress of pink pima
cotton with a tucked bodice. She
carried a cascade bouquet of
matching pink carnations. The
bridesmaids were Hrs. Robert Haas
of Lenoir, sister of the bride, and
Mrs. James Graham of Richmond.
Va., also a sister of the bride. They
wore dresses and carried flowers
like that of the honor attendant.
Mr. Snead had for his best man
his father, Mr. Jesse Snead. The
ushers were Mr. Sammy Snead, Mr.
Bill Austin, Mr. Clyde Austin, and
Mr. Bill Smith of Laurinburg.
Mrs. Austin, mother of the bride,
wore a dress of navy blue silk
with matching accessories. Mrs.
Snead, mother of the bridegroom,
wore a drew of aqua lace with
black accessories. They both wore
baby orchid conages.
