Mia* Alice Kiitafe, who is a student at Matchell College at Statasville, ar rived in Boone this weak to spend the summer with her parenta, Mr. and Mn E. H Zixiah. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith and children of Charlotte were recent visitors with Mrs. Smith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Mullins, on Bristol Road. Mrs. Lunda Nobles returned to Boone last week after a three week visit with friends and rela tive* at Johnson City and Elin bethton, Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Blair, Jrr of Greensboro, and Mrs.* Rebecca Chamberlain of Stoneville visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Blair over the week end. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Hodges of ViUs during the past week end were Mr. and Mrs. Mas ten M. Hodges and son, M. M. Jr., of Boca Raton, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Bushnell re turned to their home at DeLand, Florida, after spending a week at their summer cottage in Boone. They plan to return in a few weeks to spend the summer here. Guests of Rev. and Mrs. J. K. Parker, Jr. last week and recently were Mrs. J. M. Davenport of Charlotte. Mrs. S. A. Hart of Mooresville, and Mrs. J. K. Park er, also of Mooresville. Visitors last week with Mrs. C. G. 'Hodges of Sands, were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Honeycutt, Virginia Beach, Va.; Mr*. Mildred Darby. Norfolk; Mrs. Wayne Payseur of Lincolnton. Mrs. Clao Daniel returned to Charlotte last week after, spending two weeks with her sister and bro ther-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rice, at tKeir home at Blue Ridge Motor Court. Mr. Walter Pike of Columbus. Georgia, is spending a few weeks in Boone. Mrs. Pike, who accom panied her husband to Boone for a few days visit, has returned to her home at Columbus. Mrs. H. D. Cole, Sr., who has been visiting her son and daugh ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cole, for the past week, returned to her home in Birmingham, Ala bama, Sunday. Robert Bingham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bity Bingham, was home from Chapel Hill over the past week end. Also home the past week end from the University was Keith Wyke. The Right Rev. M. George Henry of Asheville visited St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Boone Sunday where he conducted the Rite of Confirmation at a 4:00 p. m. service. Bob Agle, Jr., student at East Carolina at Greenville who spent the week end in Boone with his parents, Mr. and Mr*. R. E. Agle, has returned to Greenville where he will work this summer. Mrs. Gordon Taylor attended a tea at Helton Sunday afternoon honoring Mia* Peggy Da via, who will be married June 3 to Mr. Ed win Taylor, at the First Methodist Church at Went Jeft'er. on. Dr. and Mrs. Bradford Hardy of El Paso, Texas, announce the birth of a daughter, Patricia Louiae, an Tuesday, May IS. Mrs. Hardy is the former Miaa Rebecca Boone, daughter of Mrs. Esther Boone and the late Mr. Boone. Mr. and Mil. Lawrence Henson have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. John Matson and daughter, Me linda Kay, in Washington, D. C., and Seabrook, Md. Mrs. Ma lion was formerly Miss Bette Mae Hen son. Mr. and Mrs. David Bingham and children and Mrs. Charles Bingham visited with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hunt at Lattimore, N. C. last week. Mrs. Charles Bingham remained for an extended visit with her daughter, Mrs. Hunt, and family. Chaplain and Mrs. Clarence E. Hobgood of Washington, D. C. spent the week end with his sister, Mrs. John Hodges and family. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hobgood and daughter, Jane, of Oxford, arrived Wednesday for a visit with the Hodges. Mrs. J. K. Brown visited her daughter, Mrs. Belle Winters and Mr. Winters at Elk Park during the past week end. Mr. Winters remains in critical condition at the Charles Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital where he has been a patient for the past. ten ?lays. Mrs. Miriam Bafcb of Raleigh | visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mont Glovier, last week. Mr. and Mrs. Glovier returned with her to Raleigh where they visited for a few days. Among the out-of-town visitors who came for the dance concert Friday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Coalson, Miss Judith and Miss Louise Coalson, Miss Constance Hardinge, Miss Nancy Peoples, and Mr. Bill Pardue, all of Bristol. Rob ert Cook acompanied them back to Bristol for a week end house party on Lake Holston. V :W Sffi Miss Hartley, Mr. Burnette Are Married Miss Rebekah Jane Hartley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Hartley of Belmont Drive, Bristol, Tenn., and Ur. Cecil James Bur nette, Jr., ton of Mr. and Mr*. C. M. Burnette, of Gate City High way, were married recently. Only members of the immediate families attended the ceremony. The double ring ceremony took place at 6:30 o'clock in tHe chapel of the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Charles Allen, of ficiating. Mrs. Jacqueline Clay, aunt of the Vide of Raleigh, was the bride's only attendant. Gordon - hittleford of Bristol, Va., served the groom as best yian. After a southern wedding trip the couple will be at home in Bristol, Tenn. The bride is a graduate of Bris tol Tennessee High School and Virginia Intermont College. At VI Mrs. Burnette was vice president of Alpha Pi Epsilon national hon orary secretarial fraternity; day student editor of the college news paper, member of the tennis team, served as Harvest Queen and was a member of the May Court. The groom Is a graduate of Bristol Virginia High School and received hit BS degree in educa tion from Clemson College, Clem son, S. C. He was captain of the Clemson baseball team his senior year and was a member of the Black "C" Club. Mr. Burnette is associated with his father in busi ness. Blue Ridge Garden Club < Member* of the Blue Ridge Or den Club were 'gueata of the jun ior club, the Blue BonneU, at the regular luncheon meeting on May 17. The meeting was held at the hone of Mrs. G. D. Baroctt, who with Mr*. E. S. Quails served at hosteaaea with the Blue Bonnets. Mrs. Barnett and Mr*. Quails are counselor* for the Jtjnior club. Also assisting the hoetesse* were Mrs. Barnard Dougherty, Mr*. Hoyle Davia, and Mr*. Bill Dixon. The colonial theme wa* carried out in the costumes worn by the twelve junior girls and their coun selor*, also in the decorations, place cards, and the menu. The Blue Bonnets furnished piono music preceding and during 'the luncheon. Mis. H. M. Cooke gave a special report on the junior breakfast at the recent State convention of the North Carolina Garden Club held in Durham. She presented the juniors with two honor certifi cates, also several ribbons were awarded to different members of the club for art work in connection with the club conservation pro gram. Mrs. Cooke announced that the junior clubs of North Caro lina have given $152.50 for a bird bath for the Daniel Boone Garden. After a brief business meeting, the .Blue Ridge Club conducted a plant sale which had been arrang ed by Mrs. Moose who is promoting the growing of delphinium by club members. Graduates Are Entertained The Women's Worthwhile Club entertained high school graduates Wednesday, May 17, with a picnic lunch on the fawn of the Boone Methodist Church. There were 110 graduates and their teachers pres ent. Chicken salad and pineapple aandwiches, barbecue, potato chips, cup cakes and Pepsi Coloas were served. Members of the Fine Arts De partment of the Worthwhile Wo man's Club had their husbands as special guests at a covered dish supper on Thursday evening. The affair, which la an annual event, was held at the attractive home of Mr. and Mrs. De Witt Bar nett in Forest Hills. A brief business session waa cou ducted by Mrs. E. M. Luttrell, act ing chairman. An informal pro gram was in charge of Mrs. E. S. Ray and Mrs. A. E. South, who led the group in a "Sing-a-long" of folk music, musical charades, and "Tangled Tunes."
