University Women Meet The June meeting of the Amer ican Association of University Wo men waa held at the home of the president, Mr*. John Van Noppen. Twelve members and guesta were present. Mrs. Robert King gave the monthly bulletin on international gffairs, placing apacial emphasis upon the recent meeting of Presi dent Kennedy and Soviet Premier Khruschev. Mrs. Reineking made an an nouncement about reorganization of the hospital auxiliary, asked for hospital helpers in different func tions of the grounds around the new nurses home. This was dis cussed and much interest was shown by the members who flladly accepted the appeal. For the program Mrs. Beard discussed the flower arrangements in the assembly room. These were made in a variety of flowers, vines and containers, including a Japanese composition, which were judged and complimented by Mrs. Reineking. Twenty two members and guests enjoyed the informal and inspiring meeting and plan ned a picnic for the July club meeting when horticulture is to be the topic for discussion. This box lunch picnic will be held on the patio of Mrs. Snyder's lovely home on the Linville Road, Tues day, July 18th. Piano Recital Tonight at 8 The Public Program! Committee and the Piano Workshop of Appa lachian State Teachers College will present Lillian Freundlich in a piano recital tonight (Thura.) at 8:00 o'clock in the auditorium of the Fine Arti Building. Mrs. Freundlich will perform works of Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, and Debussy. Formerly known as Lillian Lef kofsky, Mrs. Freundilch was born in Cleveland, Ohio, where she atudied with Franklin Carnahan. A graduate of the Oberlin Conser vatory, she was later a fellowship holder at the Julliard Graduate School. Mrs. Freundlich has served on the faculties of the Oberlin Con servatory and the Julliard Summer School. She la active in New York teaching privately and concerting. Mrs. Freundlich is here with her husband, who is conducting a piano workshop at the college. During the business session Mrs. Carlos DeLima was appointed to investigate to see if the club can assist in a safety program for this locality. Club members were reminded to take the cancer test. This club will be represented at the work ahop for presidents June 29 in Morganton. Advertising for the antique show was discussed. The show will be held July 17, 18 and 19 in Li brary Hall in Blowing Rock from 11:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. daily. The price Is 60 cents, but if the card given out by the Worthwhile Woman's Club is presented at the door the price will be SO.jfents, Mrs. Brown attended the con vention of the State Federation of Women's Clubs June 18 and 19 in Southern Pines. She and other club representatives visited 8am arcand and gave an interesting and encouraging report of what is be ing done for the improvement of certain types of North Carolina citizens. The Federated Women's Clubs assist in this needed pro ject. The girls and women at Samarcand are taught in beautiful surroundings to lead a better life. The hostesses, Mrs. Mae Miller, Mrs. J. D. Rhododendron Garden Club The Rhododendron Garden Club meeting scheduled for July 4 has been postponed. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 11, at 12 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Robert King. Medical Auxiliary Holds June Meet The Auxiliary to the Watauga County Medical Society met at the Daniel Boone Hotel, June 13, for lunch. Eight members were pre sent: Mrs. J. B. Hagaman, Jr., Mrs. James Googe, Mrs. Robert King, Mrs. R. H. Harmon, Mrs. Rose Garvey, Mrs. Phil Fail, Mrs. Mar cus Cook, and Mrs. Hadley Wil son. It was announced that the local auxiliary had won the prize at the SUte Medical Convention for the largest contribution per capita to the State Auxiliary Student Loan Fund. ' A committee was appointed to make plans for a cook-out for the doctors and their wives the last week in June. Special mention was made of Dr. Oooge's fifty years in medical practice. After further ' business items were discussed, the meeting was adjourned.
