Fine Arts Group Meets Thursday The Fine Arts Department of the Worthwhile Woman's Club held its October meeting on the 19th, at the home of Mrs. A. E. South, with Mrs. W. G. Hartzog and Mrs. M. E. Muder assisting as hostesses. The club collect was sung to open the business session, during which Mr. W. L. High gave a re port on the progress of the "Band Wagon" rummage and bake sale, sponsored by the general dub. Plans for future projects were dis cussed, and Mrs. Herman Wilcox Md Mrs. DeWitt Barnett were named to head committees. Mrs. Muder read some of her original poems which have been published in some of the newspap ers in the state. Mrs. Homer Brown gave a pro gram on "Fabric Paints", with members taking part, and trying their skill with designs on aprons, towels, place mats, etc. The hostesses served a congeal ed salad with hot spiced tea to the group after the program. Mrs. O. K. Richardson was a special guest. Lewis-Harmon Vows Are Said Mr. and Mrs. CUnt Lewis of Boone announce the marriage of their daughter, Shirley, to Jimmie Harmon, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Harmon of Beech Creek. The marriage was performed by tfce Rev. Rex West. Blowing Rock Garden Club The Blowing Rock Garden Club met with Mrs. George Worth Tues day October 17th at 10:30 a. m. Mrs. Omer Coffey and Mrs. Max Moody were co-hostewe*. Delici ous ham- biscuits, cookie* and cof fee were served by the hostesses before the business was called to order by the president, Mrs. T. R. Snyder. Nineteen members and two gueata. Miss Nabiha Audi and Mias Anisa Hodgson Mrs. Howard Holshouser gave the dub several dried arrange menta which were auctioned off to the highest bidders. Miss Na biha Audi was the auctioneer who did a fine job and made several dollars for the club. Mrs. J. E. Broyhill of Lenoir and Blowing Sock gave the dub some peonies to be sold to the members which also realized several dollars for the dub. Mrs. T. R. Snyder gave a deciduous viburnum plant and several sprays of the red berries from a viburnum plant as the door priae. There were several bunches of dried material to be used in making dried arrangements wfckti was given by Mrs Hdlshouser and were given aa door prizes alao. Miss Laaa Reeves gave a short UUc as planting and culture of peonies. Mrs. H. E. Mathis talked sa the care and culture of roses. . Mrs. Bryce Beard, Mrs. Lee Daughtridge, Mrs. L. E. Dimmette, Mrs. Lillian Apd, Mrs H. R. Reed and Mra. T. B. Snyder went to the District meeting which waa held in Hickory the ltth of October. Triveile Are Married Photo by Paul Weston Studio MRS. CHARLES LEWIS TRIVETTE Miss Tanis Ann Starnes, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Starnes, and Pvt. Charles Lewis Trivette, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Trivette, were married Thursday at 4 o'clock at Bethel view Methodist Church by their pastor, the Rev. R. H. Ballard. Mrs. Edwin McKinney provdied the wedding music. Edwin Mc Kinney sang, "Whither Thou Go est." The candlei were lit by' Johnny Carroll, an usher. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white ballerina length dress with a lace bodice. Her fingertip veil was attached to a crown of seed pearls. She car ried a bouquet of orchids and lilies of the valley. Miss Kathy Starnes, sifter of the bride, was maid of honor. She wpre a rose dress with a matching headpiece and carried a bouquet of white carnations on rose tulle. Chester Trivette, brother of the groom, was best man. The mother of the bride wore a lace aqua dress. Her corsage was red rosebuda. The groom's mother wore a royal hlue brocade dress. Her corsage was yellow rosebuds. The Rev. and Mrs. Ballard en tertained at a reception in the par sonage following the wedding. After a trip to Asheville the bride will continue her studies at Appalachian High School where she is a senior, and the groom will go to Fort Benning, Ga., where he la stationed with the Army. Gardenerettes Have Meeting The October meeting of the Gardenerettes Garden Club was held at the home of Mr*. Pro* ton Hughes, Jr. on the 19th at 8:00 p. m. The president. Mrs. W. C. Rich ardaon, presided at the business session. An interesting program was presented by Mrs. Jack Lswrenee, who showed plaque* made by Mrs. W. W. Williams, Mrs. Mary Hitfi, Mrs. E. 8. Quails and Miss Jean Childers Refreshments were served dur ing the social hour. In addition to the 11 members present were the following guests: Mrs. Jaroes Jones, Mrs. Chester Webber and Mrs. Ed Harrill. Alpha Beta Chapter Meets The Watauga Alpha B^ta Chap ter of North Carolina Alpha Delta Kappa held its regular meeting Thursday night October 19 at the home of Mrs. Pansy Taylor at Valle Crucis. Mrs. Keka Shoemake, president, called the meeting to order, and Mrs. Pansy Taylor, chaplain, led in prayer. Various committee re ports were given and plans made for altruistic projects for the year. Plans were also made for an in itiation service for incoming mem bers. At the close of the meeting deli cious refreshments were served by the hoateaa. Members present were Reba Shoemake, Velma Cottrell, Jim my Mast, Clyde Goodman, Willie Sims, Mary Schell, Agnes Shipley, Muriel Glenn, Bets Crawford, Ruth Laxton and Lucile Wallace. Alpha Gammas Have Meeting The Alpha Gamma Chapter of the Delta Gamma Society met at the Daniel Boone Hotel Saturday, October 14. The business meeting was con ducted by the president, Mrs. Kath ryn Tuily. New members were con sidered by the group and an nouncement was made concerning a workshop to be held in Mount Airy on November 4. Mrs. Ennis Davis, Mrs. D. t. Whitener, and Mrs. Sarah Horton reported on Delta Kappa conventions which they had attended recently. After the business meeting luncheon was served to members from Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties. The guest speaker for the luncheon was Mrs. Edd And erson of West Jefferson, who is a newspaper editor and publisher. Mrs. Anderson gave a most in teresting and enlightening talk on a study tour in which she partici pated recently. Her discussion dealt with the culture of the var ious countries which she visited. These included Poland, Czechoslo vakia, Lithuania, East Germany, and Russia. Milk production on American dairy farms in 1060 averaged above 7,000 pounds per cow for the first time in history. She illu strated major points of her discus sion by showing slides of the na tives, home* in Africa, market places, the country, and animals. The twenty gueats were then shown pictures, earvings, native handcraft, and furniture which Mrs. King and her husband had collected when they served as mis sionaries in Africa. Mrs. R. H. Harmon assisted the hostess in serving delicious re freshments. The next meeting will be held ?n Monday, November 27, at 8:00 p. m. in the Library Science Room at Appalachian State Teachers College. Guests attending wore Mesdames J. K. Chipun, Herman Eggers, J. E. Holah ouser Sr. and ft. C. Rivers. League members present were Mrs. David Spainhour, Mrs. Cratls Williams, president; and Mrs. Hartley Wilson, load resource chairman. Mrs. Wilson informed the group as to the plana of the League to work on a town st?dy. This will be a big project; the data wlU be compiled into a booklet which will be made available to the general public. The purpose af the League of Women voters is to promote poli tical responsibility through in formed and active participation of citizens in government. The League is non-partisan ? the League "shall not support or oppose any political party or can didate." The League believes that the Attend Garden Club Meeting The annual meeting of District II of North Carolina Garden Club, Inc., was held October 19 at the Corinth Evangelical and Reformed Church in Hickory. District Director, Mn. Clifford Huffman, presided over the meet ing which was attended by the ma jority of officers of the itate or ganization and more than ISO dub members from the various clubs in the district. Delegates from Boone included Mrs. John Hollar, President of the Boone Council; Mrs. B. W. Sal lings, Mrs. Wayne Richardaon, Mrs. W. M. Matheson, Mrs. James B. Winkler, Mrs. G. K. Moose, Mrs. H. M. Cooke, Mrs. Dempsey Wilcox, and Mrs. R. H. Harmon of the Blue Ridge Club; Mrs. W. C. Richardson and Mrs. J. T. Winkler of the Gardenerettes; Mrs. Max Dixon, Mr*. J. C. Good night, and Mrs. W. G.
