This work is be ing supervised by the superin tendent's ofice and is under the direction of John Gibson, guid ance director, and Albert C. Bickley, graduate assistant at Apalachian State Teachers Col lege. Students in grades 6, 7, 8, and 8 are being counselled regarding future high school plans. "The various proposed subject areas of our new school will be explained to the stu dents," Mr. Angell said. As soon as the study is com pleted, summaries of courses desired will be made available as pertinent information to fur ther point out the need for ex panding high school offerings in the county, the report stated. A special census of all school patrons is planned by the sup erintendent's office during this month. Purpote is to obtain a complete census of all school patrons living with in the coun ty. A special form will be made available to all teachers in the county, and names and address es obtained will be of valuable assistance to the board of edu cation in the distribution of ma terials and vital information re lative to the overall school pro gram. Mr. Angell said an effort will be made to obtain a record of every person listed as the head of a household, regardless of whether he or she may have children in school. The superintendent also said plans have been completed for the presentation of the educa tional phase of the consolidated program to schools, civic clubs, and other interested groups within the county. He will. wel come the opportunity to discuss the program in all communities prior to the close of the current school term. A second phase of the pro gram will be presented after July 1, and this will include detailed information on indi vidual tax cost if the consolida tion becomes a reality. M r. Angell explained this informa tion will not be available until after firm property valuations and tax rates have been estab lished for the fiscal year 1983 64. In the report, Mr. Angell said the increased enrollment and the overcrowded conditions at Appalachian High School con tinue to pose a major problem lor the board of education and officials of the college. "This buliding was originally designed to house 350-400 students and our propected enrollment for this school in 1965 incidates that we will have approximately 730 students living in the present Appalachian High School Dis trict," Mr. Angell said. "Our present high school facilities in the county cannot adequately care for this increase without providing for additional facili ties." INELIGIBLE Memphis ?
