Home Demonstration Council Meets The second quarterly Home Demonstration Council meeting was held on Friday in the Home Economic* Extension Agents off ice. Mrs. Earl Petrey, county council president, presided. Mrs. Coy Billings of Cove Creek Club was elected secre tary to fill the unexpired term of Mrs. George Harmon of Su gar Grove. Other items of business dis cussed was the new home dem onstration yearbook, leader ing school to be held on April 2 in the Home Economics Ex tension Agent's office, bloodmo bile visit on April 23, county ecrapbook material should be in by May 10, District V Home Demonstration Council meeting will be held in Spruce Pine on April 18, the county achieve ment committee will have a re port by May 10 and ' the 29c per club member for the Citix enship Conference is due to Mrs. Cecil Swift by June 1. Beaver Dam, Bethel, Brushy Fork, Cove Crbek, Hodges Gap and Town and Country Home Demonstration Clubs have paid $1.00 for the Music Fund this year. This is three more than last year. The Home Demonstration Clubs are having a music work shop at the Boone Methodist Church on March 2B. Bethel, Blowing Rock, Brushy Fork, Cove Creek, Green Valley, Hodges G?p and Town and Country Clubs were represented at the council meeting .with an attendance of 13. Blowing Rock Home Club Meets The Blowing Rock Home Dem onstration Club met in the love ly home of Mrs. Howard Hols house r on March 21, with Mrs. Clyde Dula presiding. The club collect was presented by Mrs. Dowd Robinson. Mrs. Holshouser gave the treasurer's report. The members voted that the club donate $1.00 towards the support of the State Music Fund. Mrs. R. B. Hardin, Mrs. Clyde Dula, Mrs. Howard Holshouser, -Mrs. Dowd Robinson, Mrs. Stew ard Bolick, and Mrs. W. M. Shaheen volunteered to bake cookies for the personnel of the blood mobile, due in Boone April 23. Dates worth remembering were brought to the attention of the members. The Music Workshop on March 28, the dis trict V council meeting which will be held in Spruce Pine on April 18, and the county coun cil meeting on May 10, at the Boone Methodist Church with guest speaker Guy Angell. Mrs. Robinson volunteered to be the club leader for the April meeting of which the lesson will be on window hardware. Conflicting dates of the dis trict V council meeting and the club's regular monthly meeting, the April meeting will be held on Thursday, April 4, in the home of Mrs. W. M. Shaheen. The program was on the home vegetable garden after which Urs. Danner distributed man uals on gardening. Mrs. Holahouser served de licious dishes of pudding-cake topped with ice cream. Green Valley Club Meets ' . The Green Valley Home Dem onstration Club met March 20, with Mrs. Conley Church. The meeting was opened by reading the colelct and the devotional was led by Mrs. Church. The group sang "Oh For Carolina," after which the club was in reg ular session. The roll was called and eight members reported present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Oficers for the coming year were eelcted as follows: Presi dent ? Mrs. Clayton Moretz, treasurer ? Mrs. Minnie Norris, vice-president ? Mrs. Russell Norris, secretary ? Mrs. Troy Norris, assistant secretary ? Mrs. WoodrOw Winebarger. Mrs. Lillian Danner gaVe a ver yinteresting demonstration on gardening: Location, prepara tio nof ground, fertilizers, seeds, plants, dusts and weed control. High Quality Seed 3. Proper Fertilization Brushy Fork Club Meets The Brusny Fork Home De mom tration Club met at the home of Mrs. Eddie NorrU on Thursday, March 21. The meeting was calltd to or der by the president, Mrs. Ed die Norrif. The hundredth Psalm was read by Mr*. Reatha Wilson (or devotion, and Mrs. Ivalee Dancey led the prayer. The craft leader, Miaa Maude Perry, showed some Swedsh weaving she had done. Also, Mrs. Reatha Wilson brought an Easter display to show. Home management leader, Mrs. Martha Greene, gave some suggestions on "Arranging Your Kitchen." The safety leader, Mrs. Ruby Adams, gave a safety report. The foods leader, Mrs. Louise Baird, gave some helpful hints on "Keeping milk pure and good tasting." The clothing leader, Mrs. Ivalee Dancey, showed some articles of crewel embroidery she had made. Mrs. Danner gave a very helpful demonstration on "Your Garden." Delicious refreshments were served to IS members and 4 visitors, Mrs. Clyde Hanson, Mrs. Dennis Trivette, Mrs. Todd McCoy and Greg Norris. Nearly anybody can have an : idea but putting It into motion i is what makes the profits. i The trouble with most re- i formers is that they cannot sup- i port any proposal except their ] own. ] Cove Creek Baptist To Have Missions Program & A week with many far-reach ing possibilities U being plaaned (or Cove Creak Baptist Church March 31 through April 9 with the emphasis on World Mis sions. Sunday, March 31, the morn ing message will be brought by Miss Pauline Martin. The Bev. Elmer Thomas will be the speak er for the Sunday night service. Each evening Monday through Friday, beginning at 7 o'clock, classes will be taught for each ige group with Home Missions the subject. Following the class es there will be a missionary speaker who will stress some particular phase of Southern Baptist missionary work. The speaker! for the evening messages will be: Monday ? Miss Minnie Berry. Tuesday ? The emphasis will be on Stewardship with details to be announced later. Wednesday? The Rev. J. J. Cowsert. Thursday? The Rev. Letter Marsh. Friday ? The Rev. Floyd Rhyne. 1 Mrs. Blanche Perry, in mak ing the announcement, said, "The members of Cove Creek Church extend a cordial .invita tion to all people near by to Join them in taking advantage of this opportunity which doesn't come often." Stanley Harris, secretary treasurer of Watauga Citizens, Inc., reports that tlx campaign to raise 929,000 to assure the ?hoe factory's coming to this county has made "excellent" progress. "Already 921,290 ? or a little less than 00 per cent of the goal? has been reported and quite a number of donations are still pending. A special ef fort is being made to complete the fund drive by Thursday noon (time of the business luncheon)." Added Harris, "Every citften interested in the progress of Watauga county should do his part with a subscription, pay able by or before July 1, 1983. "Anyone who has not Indi cated how much we ihould ex pect from him or hit firm should call Glenn Andrews, Clyde Greene, or myself (Har ris) and indicate his interest," he said. "With 270 more persons em ployed and a payroll at $800, 000 to >14)00,000 a year, this company could make a big dif ference in the economy of Wa tauga county," Harris noted. A-TE8T BAN HOPES President Kennedy says that the United States will continue negotiations with Soviet Russia in an effort to obtain a safe guard test ban treaty. The only alternative is to see nuclear weapons spread to other coun tries.
