AMI Frofessors lo Conduct A Tour Of Europe Duriug Summer Two ASTC professors will con duct a "flying lour" of Europe this summer. Traveling by jet pUne, the group of alumni and friends of ASTC will be under the direc tion of Drs. John and Ina Van Noppen. The party is scheduled to leave New York on June 10 and return to New York on July 8. All travel between countries will be by air, and .excursions within countries will be by pri vate deluxe motorcoach. The air travel will enable the group to spend more time in each coun try visited. Last summer the Van Nop pens conducted a similar tour for teachers and students of North Carolina. The party will stop first at Lisbon, Portugal, for sightseeing and continue to Madrid for a three-day stay. There will be an excursion to Toledo to see the Aid Moorish capital and the paintings of El Greco. Nice, the next stop, will serve as head quarter* f* seeing tte Riviera and Bawtht? France. Dr. John Van Noppen said that in Rome they will visit the Borg hese Gallery and Park, the Trevi Fountain, the Parthenon, Saint Peter's, the Coliseum, the Vati can, and the Forum. A visit will be made to Tivolo and Assissi. Dr. Ina Van Noppen, dis tinguished professor of history at ASTC, said that the highlight of the tour will be the visit to Florence, the "mother of the renaissance." There they will visit the Medici and palaces, the Uffizi Gallery, the Pittl Palace, and take a look at Mlchael angelo's David and Dante's house. In picturesque Venice the party will tour St. Mark's Square, the cathedral, the Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. The group will visit the pal aces, the art gallery and the Hofbrau House in Munich. From Munich they will take a side trip to see Baravian Castles and the Alps. In romantic Paris the tour in cludes the Tuileries Gardens, the Place de la Concord, the Champs Elysee, the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Sorbonne, Notre Dame, the Montmarte and ex cursions to Versailles, the Tri anon; and the Petit Trianon. After four days In Paris they will fly to London to see Buck ingham Palace, the Changing of the Guard, the Tower of London, the Cnriosity Shop, the Honse of Parliament, Westminster Ab bey. A one-day excursion will be made to the Shakespeare Coun try, to Oxford, Stratford-on Saturday and Sunday April 6*7 Period Of Adjustment , with Jim Hutton Janefonda Avon, Warwick Castle, Coventry Cathedral, and another day's ex cursion to Canterbury. Reservations have been made for hotel rooms, meals, private motor-coaches and couriers and for air transportation, but re served space may be held at this peak season only if deposits of $100 are received within the near future. If unforseen circumstances make it impossible for a mem ber of the tour to go, the de posit will be refunded up until Hay 1, on which date the bal ance of the payment, $773, is due. After that dattf a refund will be possible if a substitute member joins the group. Retires From Highway Dept. Trade, Tenn., April 1. ? Mr. Mack Lawrence, well known cit izen of Trade, Tennessee, who has worked for the Johnson County Highway Department (or 'ffie past 30 years, retired last month on March 6. Mr. Law rence was a faithful servant, and was always on the job at all times. He plans to take it easy for a while and do a lot of fishing. He and Mrs. Lawrence plan a vacation in Reno, Nevada, in the latter part of the summer, where they will visit a daughter and other relatives. Teachers College will present Mr James Graeber and Mr. Wayne Davis In ? joint senior recital Sunday, April 7, at S p. m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Mr. Graeber, a native of Con cord, will play the trombone. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Rebecca Burgess. Mr. Davis, who is from Wilkes County, will perform on the French horn and will be accompanied by Miss Gloria Hampton. Mr. Graeber will perform the following selections: "Concerto No. 2," V. Blazhevilch; "Atlan tic Zephyrs," Gardell Simons; "Evening in the Country," Bela Bartok; and "Morceau Sym phonique," Alexandre Guil mant. Mr. Davis will perform the following: "Concerto No. 1," Richard Strauss; "Concerto No. 3 for French Horn," W. A. Mozart; and "Concerto for French Horn," W.
