God win attended a meeting in Mar ion Friday evening and Satur day morning, April 6 and 7, for the leaders of the Diocean Youth Commission of Western North Carolina Episcopalian Church. The Rev. Mr. J. O. Beckwith was in charge. Plans were made for the Episcopal Young Churchmen convention which will be held at St. John's Church in Marion April 28 and 27. The theme of the convention will be Stimulating Interest in E. Y. C. work all over the Western North Carolina Diocese. Serving in an advisory capacity in this Dean ery will be Sarah and Choo Choo Justice of Asheville. Everyone is invited. Librarians To Have Workshop Appalachian State Teachers College will otter a two-week workshop for high school li brarians and teachers this sum mer. The workshop, in devices for interpreting books to readers, will be held from July 15-26 on the ASTC campus. Three quar ter hours credit will be given for the course. Mrs. Mary Peacock Douglas, sdiool library supervisor for the Raleigh City Schools, will conduct the workshop. Church, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Church, Rt 1, Vilas, N. C., recently com pleted three days of annual training tests with other mem bers of the 8th Division's 16th Infantry at Baumholder, Ger many. Fog, snow and mud hampered the infantrymen as they parti cipated in attack and defense maneuvers against an "aggres sor" force. Church, a driver in Company E of the infantry's 1st Battle Group in Baumholder, entered the Army in October 1961. He completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C., and arrived overseas in April 1962. Hie 24-year-old soldier at tended Cove Creek High School. Appalachian Governors Meet At White House Washington. ? Governor* rep resenting economically hard pressed Appalachian state* were invited last week to a White House meeting Tuesday to dis cuss area redevelopment activi ties and other efforts to cope with persistent unemployment. The White House said Presi dent Kennedy Invited the Con ference of Appalachian Govern ors to take part in a meeting with the advisory policy panel for the Area Development Ad ministration. The states involved are West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, Kentucky and Ala bama. The White House said it would be up to the governor's conference to determine which governors would attend. The White House said the AHA policy group, composed of department and agency heads, would devote part of the Tues day meeting "to special prob lems of the Appalachian area." That is why the governors were invited, an announcement said. The statement added: "It is expected that there will be a summary of the activities to dste, a discussion of even cloeer cooperation between the federal government and local govern mental units concerned with the persistent unemployment of the region, and a report of the fed eral task force that has been working with the Appalachian States hit bard by the floods of last month."
